Not sure I'd want to sign with a Canadian team right now given the uncertainty and restrictions. You might end up playing in a AAA stadium or be locked down from entering/exiting the country etc. But an additional 25-40 million dollars might help.
Of course in writing this, I started to go down a rabbit hole of the Financials of playing in Canada. They're paid in USD rather than Canadian but of course they pay Canadian taxes. The highest combined Federal and provincial marginal tax rate in Ontario is 53.5%. So playing all their games in Buffalo last year actually saved the players a little money 37% Federal rate and 9% state.

Astros sign Ryne Stanek to a 1 year $1.1 mil deal.
Click had him in Tampa, he's had a couple of good seasons as a reliever but was dogshit last year. Could be a nice little project for Stromm to turn back into a legit bullpen piece.
Astros could control Stanek through '23 via arbitration
Baseball Reference

Feels like a good hire, should be a productive bullpen piece.

Wasn’t he their dedicated opener for a bit?
Posted on 1/7/21 at 5:57 pm to texastiger38
Yea he “opened” 56 games for the Rays in 2018-2019 before Tampa traded him.
He was a starter at Arkansas, I remember him shoving it up LSU’s arse twice in 2013.
Fastball averaged 97.5 in in 18 and 19, ticked down to 95.8 last season. Hopefully a normal offseason gets that velo back up

Load up the pen and let the young starters battle it out. I like it.
But El Oh El on Stanek.

Pay me a million bucks and I'll quit acting a bitch on Twitter too.

Yep. The whole trope about guys not willing to play for the Astros is mindless crap. There are only 30 big league employers, and dudes ain't turning down millions because of muh principles.

I think there would be some guys from the Dodgers and the A's who really wouldn't come to Houston (or maybe they'll drop the jilted lover act now they won one) but you're right when it comes time to make that decision it only comes down to who pays the most and who gives them a chance at a title.

I mean isn't it the worst kept "unspoken" secret that pitchers are using foreign substances to grip the ball? That won't stop the Twitter outrage mob from pinning this 100% on the Astros though.

Been good for a while. I like it

My least favorite pitcher in baseball..great.
Dude takes 30 minutes between pitches.

Yeah, he’s slow as frick. Effective though

I like the addition a lot. Super solid reliever, hope this isn’t the final piece since they’ve been linked to Hand and Colome too.
Depth is important though

Joe LaForce being back should also help with depth.
