Championship.

LSU won the natty last year, and a lot of the guys are so happy they just didn’t feel like doing it all over again.
They were really good LSU players that deserved to go NFL don’t get me wrong, but a lot of this team playing right now and some that left/ opted out just were content on winning the natty that year, and that’s all.

The last Bama championship was what 2017?
A lot of those bama players were freshmen and some played but most didn’t and they wanted that and were hungry that’s why they stayed.

Same with Clemson they win Nattys but most of their players couldn’t walk out on Clemson after that bad taste in their mouth from LSU.

Once these players realize and when it hits them that last year is over and that if your content you will lose, then we will be ready to play real football. If not we have to wait for these wave of players to move out and start over.

Just something to get off my chest LOL.

Plus they don’t want the pay cut of going to the NFL.

Not sure why the perception continues that most all Bama players returned who could have left early. They actually had six underclassmen declare for the draft - Tua, Jeudy, Ruggs, Wills, Lewis, and McKinney.

They were in better position to plug the holes left by those departures because they've been bringing in classes ranked at or near the top for the last several years.

They lose tons of underclassmen too, Saban does a great job getting backups experience and making sure they prepare like starters.

So they’re ready when it is their time.

There’s probably a lot of truth to your opinion, but this isn’t just a “last year/championship” problem for us. Almost every year we are one of the country leaders in underclassmen leaving early. It’s been like this for 12-15 years.

Most of LSU's run defense would have been solved with Shelvin back in the middle and anchor of defense.

Chase would have grabbed so much attention that would have made it easier on the offense.

Vincent would have helped in that nickel role.

On top of everything else you lost, you end up losing three more guys that would have likely had just as much an impact that are now players being forced to play when they might not be ready.

That’s a big problem though. Alabama is thinking about “how many championships can I win?” while according to you, LSU players are happy with one. Sucks if that’s the mentality of the team.

I agree with this partially. I think it is largely true strictly speaking of last year. But overall, Saban and Bama consistently bring back guys who would be high draft picks. They have a lot of guys declare early also of course, but no other program gets guys to come back like they do.

draft stock driven by recent success is the reason so you're indirectly correct

I expected this thread to be awful, but while “one reason” is probably overly simplistic... there is certainly truth here.

People get all pissy every time I say it but you can't market your football program as "NFLSU" and then get upset when players leave early for the NFL

Hahaha. The reason those guys are coming back is money. Bama pays them more than we do. These guys are players, not fans. Fans have nothing to weigh against the glory of gridiron success. The players have money to weigh against it.

Just ask yourself this: if you had a 100% chance for five million dollars right now, or play a year of college football for free, and IF you don't get hurt, you get five million dollars next year. What would you do? Add to that you are dirt poor with no chance at a college education and with no marketable job skills.

This is what makes Saban so good. He organizes the wealthy fans to create a "special" club that serves a "special" purpose.

Championship.

Of course..... as is OSU who Day thinks will be a once in a lifetime team. !st round picks Shaun Wade and Wyatt Davis opted out but immediately opted back in when the B1G resumed play. According to them it is a bust year if they don't win the natty.
