It’s absurd to think someone being let go for incompetence still will cash in. So why would Pelini give a frick if he is shite canned or not he is set for retirement

No. Woodward did not negotiate a good contract.

Thanks Woodward for that lovely contract.

Woodward is a good AD, but he's the fricking worst in the business at contracts.
He should NOT oversee contacts.

who were we competing with for Pelini's services that we should have given him that? If I remember correctly, we were the only ones looking to hire him.

If it's a multi-year contract, there's a buyout. Most coordinators worth their salt have multi-year contracts.

I thought these issues exited with Alleva. Sheesh

It would be highly unusual for a professional services contract of any kind, including a coaching contract to have performance guarantees as a trigger for "good cause" for termination.
There are too many other factors which could affect outcomes on the field. You really cannot fault Woodward for that. No coaches have such contracts, that I know of.
However, we paid WAAAY too much for Pellini and he was a poor choice.
Orgeron and Woodward, in that order, have to account for this error.

a 7 million buyout for a coordinator with zero demand at the time is pretty crazy

He had a comfortable job in his hometown at Youngstown State. He wasn’t going to take a pay cut to move back down to LA and put up with what he’s now putting up with to coach the Tigers.

He was making 214,000 a year at Youngstown State btw.

Surely he can be fired for "cause".
"Cause" he sucks.

YSU football revenues are less than 2M/year. LSU is pushing 100M/year.
Pelini wasn’t at YSU because that was the highest profile job he could get.

yes most good coaches have buyouts. They are generally negotiated if coach is fired so they aren't always guaranteed the whole buyout. Woodward isn't the best at negotiating contracts...see Jimbo being guaranteed 75 mil

Should have given Brady the fat contract.

I don't think the buyout is the problem with Pelini's contract. But the gross overvaluation LSU put on Pelini's worth is negligence bordering criminal.
I still don't understand why we backed the Brinks truck up to his house when NO ONE else was vying for his services.
