It's going to be frustrating as hell if Zion turns out to be the only decent player we got in that draft.

I had figured this was the case for awhile. I think they very much want to get him over here but probably want to get another season under his belt for experience.

Maybe an indication of what type of player they’re looking to draft this year.

Maybe they'll bring him in mid-season on a 2 way contract. It sounds like the NBL will finish in April. The NBA isn't starting until January or maybe even February.

Probably for the best. Get him more miuntes to develop. Plus we are stacked at SG. He is listed at 6'5, 185. So, unless he hits a growth spurt, I'm guessing that is more where he plays..

Turned 21 in July. This is a smart move for his development and confidence

Surely he has a clause in his contract that if the Pel's or(NBA team) wants to sign him then he can leave?

What I know is that last season, the Pels had the right to bring Didi over midseason, but there was a deadline (and we obviously let it pass). I would fell sure that there would be a similar setup this season, but with all the dates off, who knows when the deadline would be.
But, yeah, if he's going to make it to the NBA, then our future 3 & D guy needs to learn to shoot 3s. Some more time in Sydney may help.

Apparently Trajan said any Pelicans rookie would spend a good deal of time in GLeague next season too?
Sounds like we will be making some win now moves.

All signs are pointing to Doc or Lue being the head coach next season. Honestly, I think it's the right move. You want to solidify yourself as an organization on the upswing getting a good coach that'll get player buy-in and media respect is a good start.

The Pels need Zion and Ingram to reach their peak way more than they need to draft a 3rd All Star using top 5 picks. They hired Langdon to find those guys without having a top pick.

I will say, Jaxson at the very least will be a rotation big off the bench, that's I think more than "good enough" from a draft.
NAW I've lost all hope already. Didi being a rotation player is fine.

It sounds like Didi’s contract allows him to leave for an NBA roster anytime so this makes sense.
You have him start playing and then a month later if you want to bring him over you can, or you wait until the season is done and maybe you bring him over as a 2 way or cut a non-guaranteed.

Did you watch him in the Bubble? He drove to the basket a lot and was very successful. His FG% on drives in the bubble was somewhere in the 60%s IIRC. NAW has a lot of tools to be really good, he just needs to figure out how put it all together.

I give players 2.5 years to develop. If they aren’t good by then or showing signs of major improvement, then it’s unlikely they ever will.

I'd add "for the team that drafted them" to that. Some players need to bounce around before they accept their role in the NBA.
Bigs also take longer to develop. I can see Jaxon becoming a Tyson Chandler kind of player, but the odds of him still being on the Pels when he gets there are pretty low.

I don't.
When you draft in the top 10, that should be the floor on that players potential.
As you said though "at the very least". The kid was thrust into playing significant minutes and i thought he did pretty good all things considered. What you see after their first offseason is very telling on their true potential I think, so the jury is still very much out on both Jaxson and NAW. They both need to get the game to slow down, and that will take some playing time to get better at.
I got no problem with Didi playing in Australia. As others mentioned, it's likely more b/c he'll actually get to play basketball way before the NBA season starts, so why wouldn't you want him to get more run before coming over.
not real fond of the supposed statement from Langdon about rookies playing in the G-League this upcoming year. You're drafting 13, not 45. I don't think it's too much to ask that you draft a kid that is capable of giving you some meaningful minutes considering 3 of the last 5 picks at 13, 2 of which are already all stars and the other is a key contributor as a rookie on a team in the Finals.
No one drafted in the top 13 in the last 3 drafts played in the G-League at any point. Chew on that.

Hayes has already shown that at the very least he already has one elite skill: he gets to the line.
I’ve touched on this before, but part of the reason all of the advanced metrics loved Hayes this year is partly to do with his ridiculous .734 FTr which was second in the league this year behind Howard and just in front of Gobert. In fact, his FTr would have lead the league the last two years and been top 3 in each of the last 5 years. If you want more context, Hayes became the 2nd rookie since 2007 to finish in the top 3 in FTr (Bam in 17-18), and had the highest FTr for a rookie in the last 15 years.
So what does this mean? Well, FTr is not an end-all-be-all stat, and tends to favor “old school” type centers. The FTr leader’s list most years is not littered with all-stars, but does include lots of useful rotation players. To me this is a pretty good indicator that, at the very least, Hayes’ baseline is “useful rotation big” with the potential to be much more.
