re: Old baw in Slidell overdosed, EMS gives Narcan to save his life

Break a back, take painkillers, get addicted and end up needing that narcan when they inevitably turn to heroin to get "well" and od.
This is the problem right here, plain and simple. There are more than a few places on the north shore that claim to be pain management but will give prescriptions as long as you come in for appointments and do some type of procedure every few months. These same places will reduce the strength of the pills after a year and the same the next year, and that’s when the problems start. It’s easy to talk shite about people if you haven’t personally been affected by it but if you have witnessed it up close your attitude might be different.

the only sure fire way to avoid it is to never take the opiate even if prescribed. The make me so fricking constipated anyway, I have no idea how people leave with a constant opiate intake.
never being able to take a shite is pretty hard motivation to abstain

That’s true, but people will because the pills aren’t going anywhere. I would rather a family member or friend take 4 Norco 10’s rather than them putting a needle in their arm.

Friend,
I appreciate your witness. I too know people who have handed in the shackles of opioid and alcohol addiction for liberty in Christ. They are new and beautiful creations. Anyone who says otherwise, and that their lives are not worth saving, are a sad lot. May each of us, never thinking we are better than the other, put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Through Christ, all things are possible!
Yours,
TulaneLSU

it's very sad how readily you all are willing to throw away people's lives. says a lot.

We aren't throwing away the lives of others.
They are throwing their own lives away.
You sound like you aren't a big believer in personal responsibility

No it's not. I'm a steadfast nonbeliever yet have had people very close to me regain their strength to overcome addiction through Christ. Also many strangers. Have also had a few very close lose their lives due to their battle. If only they had found God or something else to get them through the pain.
Of course there will always be those that begin change to only fall back yet there are still many that persevere and change their lives completely through their belief in Christ. Everyone has their own way of dealing and overcoming and though I'm not a believer it doesn't stop me from appreciating what Christ does to help others, whether real or not. The mind and heart(figurative) are our strongest allies through any difficulties life or ourselves bring forth.

quote:You’re talking to simpletons. Their whole world view is “drugs bad, alcohol good” and they will cling to that view their entire lives. They don’t understand the psychology of addiction, they don’t understand human nature, they don’t understand shite. They are miserable, judge mental, redneck fricks and they do not have a sliver of empathy for anyone going through something that they don’t understand.
unless you've gone through it, or been very close to someone who has, you really can't comprehend all the in's and out's that is addiction... it's not quite as simple as "just quit" or "don't start"

I personally know at least 40. I'm sorry you're too stupid to see the truth.

I love you man, your story and mine are very similar. I'm in recovery and am a father of 3, husband, employee, friend, brother, son. I make a very good living and unless I told you, you'd never imagine how low my bottom was. I am absolutely not defined by my lows. Anyone who's ignorant enough to belive that is truly short changing themselves. I've always said the worst part of the disease of addiction is the stigma that society has placed on it. It alone kills more people than you'd believe. The absolute best thing anyone can do to help an alcoholic who's still suffering is to treat them with compassion.
