no, it seems unaware or uneducated about what actually drug addiction entails... your comments read like a D.A.R.E pamphlet, and there's NOTHING that could be further from the actuality of drug addiction than the generic, over simplistic message you are posting
I am married to an alcoholic and I am very aware and knowledgeable of the adiction process.
my start was a legit prescription for Vicodin ES
What was the reason for the Vicodin prescription? How long did you take it? Regardless, often those who want to use drugs will make the decision to continue usage under the guise of getting a compliant doctor to continue prescribing " legit " drugs. There is a point in time when you and every othre addict knew better and elected to continue your drug usage.

Plus those public service messages probably couldn't be too very informative inasmuch as preparing one for, say, the sudden death of a child or other close person, or say perhaps at some point in one's life they fall prey to physical/sexual abuse and maybe they just don't take it as well as some of the tough guys out there. Etc etc etc etc etc.

strep throat...10 days... and yes, I did make a decision to continue taking it, like I said, because not taking it led to withdrawals... and that shite sucks, so knowing if I continue taking it I won't be dopesick, or if I quit taking it, I'll feel like I'm dying, its a pretty simple choice for a 19 year old in college...
and look, I'm not saying I made the RIGHT choice, or that I should be pitied b/c of what happened, or that I should be commended for turning it around... none of that... I'm just saying that people should try to get the context and try to gain more understanding of what drug addiction ACTUALLY is, rather than just looking at it simply as an avoidable action... sometimes, it's actually not.... I've had plenty of people, either as peers in the rooms, or as patients, who got bad off from legit health problems, started with legit scripts, and then shite got out of hand, whether intentional or not.... like I said, it's not always cut and dry, and as simple as some would like to make it... it's a complex issue, that should be treated as such, because at the end of the day, addict or not, you NEVER know how big.a cross everyone else has to bear...

In my personal experience addictions to alcohol and pain pills are both dangerous both not the same, at least for me. If I could take a pain pill I would but my brain didn’t crave it like it does alcohol, maybe I just got lucky, not the same with alcohol though.
I hope you never get into a chronic pain situation where you need medication for a long time. I have seen this take down some very strong, well established people.[/quote
" Chronic pain " is just an excuse for submitting to personal weakness. Often chronic pain victims are people who were in an accident and manipulated by the personal injury system by unscrupulous attorneys and doctors. It was to the attorneys benefit to create the largest claim possible ,aided and abetted by doctors who were willing to slant the medical record and buttress it with prescriptions.
There are other instances where the inability to deal with life is masked by " chronic pain " complaints and the ever compliant doctor who writes the prescription.

as a medical profession, I will admit this does happen sometimes... but it's hardly the norm... whether you'd like to believe it or not, chronic pain IS a legit medical condition, and unfortunately, as of right now, we don't have anything better than opiates to medically treat these patients... and no, nowadays, there are NOT many "pill mills" around... sadly enough, though, the damage that those pill mills did is still being seen today... again, context and understanding of what's ACTUALLY happening would go a long, long way...

Not really, fent is the real killer these days. Heroin addicts aren’t spending heroin money on coke, it all goes to the downers.

Great post and sorry for your loss.
The people that laugh and speak in jest and so callously about drug addicts should be careful. It will hit them close to home one day, maybe even them personally. Break a back, take painkillers, get addicted and end up needing that narcan when they inevitably turn to heroin to get "well" and od. Opioid deaths have surpassed fricking car accidents In many places in total deaths per year but it's just the bottom of society doing drugs according to them. No, its mothers, sisters and daughters, fathers, brothers and sons falling victim to this epidemic. Many on the top rungs of society.
These judgmental folks are no different from the liberals they complain about daily with this line of thinking. Preconceived notions with no actual knowledge of what they speak. Karma is a bitch my friends. This epidemic will hit home to all of us eventually, even those that think they live above it.

I am glad you were able to overcome your addiction and make a life for yourself.
However, statistically speaking, are these gentlemen in the video more likely to cure cancer OR steal/injur/murder for drug money or kill someone driving under the influence?

Getting dopesick as you call it after 10 days is not believable. I've been on opioids for more than 15 years for a genetic disorder that will never go away. I would understand 3 months, a year maybe but 10 days is a copout for sure

How many narcan recoveries have gone on to live productive lives?
