Paraphrasing, but he essentially said,

LSU’s guys were out there telling us how tired they were. Like, they were saying to us, gah we’re so tired...

This is what we get chasing players sideline to sideline. Cover 2 man, which is what we played 95% of the game, works amazing against the pass when you take away the inside release like you are supposed to. Unfortunately, we had young corners going up against veteran Miss state WRs and they simply couldn’t reroute or cut off the inside. Either Coach O or Bo should’ve recognized this and adjusted. Instead they stuck to the original game plan and got torched. I think we’ll get better, but that was poor coaching preparation and poor in game coaching.

That’s an ignorant statement, and makes me think that you didn’t understand anything I was saying

I think we’ve beaten the Pelini should’ve shifted to zone coverage horse into the ground with a shovel enough. That secondary had a really bad day but they are not that bad of a unit. Bring back sting and make adjustments and it’s a top 15 secondary, period. This team has more potential for vast improvement than any other team in the conference and after these next two cupcakes those improvements will show up in Gainesville. At least they better bc we won’t face a better QB after Trask.

The offense didn’t help the defense out at ALL. They were completely gassed by the 2nd quarter.

They could’ve went cover 4 and Leach would’ve started dicing up the linebackers. Cover 3 and he would’ve killed us in the seams. It was apparent that they felt their guys were best at playing man coverage and they didn’t have enough time to prepare a scheme to counter the air raid. We had no Delpit, Fulton, or Stingley out there to help out.

Jay Ward - hurt
Evans - Nicholls transfer
Flott - did okay but got mandhandled by veterans
Elias Ricks - held his own most of the time and got a pick

We need Stingley back and for someone to emerge in the worst way. Luckily we won’t be facing another QB/scheme combo like that again

RemindEd me of O’s first road game as head coach. Team was unprepared, looked slow at almost every position, and got tired early.

Cover 2 is a zone defense.
which we basically never did yesterday.

we mostly played press-man coverage with a si for high safety.
and actually used DBs to Blitz very often.

there was nothing cover 2 about what you saw last night.

Eh, what gets me isn’t the 2-man. It’s constantly sending 5-6 guys on the pass rush when your best DB is out. If you want to leave Stingley on an island that’s fine. But true freshmen/first time starters?

What part of Cover 2 MAN was confusing. It’s called 2 man under. You have 2 deep safeties while corners and backers are playing man underneath. The underneath players in man are supposed to play inside the receiver to take away short easy inside routes and throws, forcing outside throws and deep throws where safety help is. Our corners weren’t able to do that. They also had poor technique on go routes and the safeties didn’t get outside to cover the top like they were supposed to. It was poor execution all around in the secondary.

Cover
2
is
a
ZONE
defense

just because you have 2 deep safeties does not make it a cover 2. Plus Mo Hampton played up most of the night leaving you with Todd Harris as a single high safety anyway.

we played press man. all damn day. with blitzing DBs.
Cover 2 has nobody blitzing (only rush 4), let alone it being your DBs coming off the edge.
Cover 2 also has only 4 DBs and we spent most of the day in Nickel package.

again, NOTHING you saw yesterday falls under the umbrella of Cover 2.

I'm not taking up for the other guy, but without watching the replay, we basically never ran this D. We played tons of single high safety man. We did 90% single high safety man and man zero blitz. Costello is a veteran QB who is well coached. He would look the safety off left, throw right.

They played cover 2 SHELL. It's the shell of cover 2 without the zone underneath.

Also, they played a lot of zone match. Our guys just couldn't execute

Hey remember me?
I'm the one you bashed for simply praising Aranda.
Well your Defensive Genius made his way into the SEC Record Books yesterday. Are you celebrating today?

Lagniappe unrelated to me but just another example of you bashing our last DC.

This mid-game post aged particularly well.

The secondary is super young.
I've been saying this
Sting is your it seasoned corner
Jacoby is your only seasoned safety
I think flott is a fine 3rd corner and can become a great 2nd corner. He just needs more snaps. He is a good player

Jay ward was supposedly out the last 2 weeks injured
He shouldn't be starting

Establishing a running game and controlling the clock helps to prevent this.

He don't. He cups Pelini's balls since the hire.
