They could’ve went cover 4 and Leach would’ve started dicing up the linebackers. Cover 3 and he would’ve killed us in the seams. It was apparent that they felt their guys were best at playing man coverage and they didn’t have enough time to prepare a scheme to counter the air raid. We had no Delpit, Fulton, or Stingley out there to help out. Jay Ward - hurt Evans - Nicholls transfer Flott - did okay but got mandhandled by veterans Elias Ricks - held his own most of the time and got a pick

This...except Ricks. I don’t think that he held his own. The pick was nice, but other than that, he looked lost.

Doesn't help either when they let them get away with the slot receiver blowing up the outside corner like they did on the play following the tuck rule non-fumble!!

Them DB’s need to hit the weights. To skinny to be playing SEC ball. Got manhandled off the line.

It’s constantly sending 5-6 guys on the pass rush when your best DB is out. If you want to leave Stingley on an island that’s fine. But true freshmen/first time starters?

Trying to hurry the QB into rushed throws. It worked a couple of times and isn’t a bad plan. But their QB made a lot of good quick throws. He looked like he had a lot of experience. We had no answer

I'm not taking up for the other guy, but without watching the replay, we basically never ran this D. We played tons of single high safety man. We did 90% single high safety man and man zero blitz. Costello is a veteran QB who is well coached. He would look the safety off left, throw right.

My question is why are Raymond and Busch's names not brought up instead of just Pelini's? Raymond hasn't forgotten how to coach DB's. Then people are acting like if someone can't play man then surely they know zone. I think they would have screwed that up as well with lacking knowledge of responsibilities, transitions/switching off/on receivers, etc. We have too many guys with very low experience levels and started off vs a daunting matchup with Leach. If the offense had generated more productive drives the first half some of this would have been alleviated to a degree.

Cover 2 man, which is what we played 95% of the game

Cover 2 is a zone defense.
which we basically never did yesterday.

we mostly played press-man coverage with a si for high safety.
and actually used DBs to Blitz very often.

there was nothing cover 2 about what you saw last night.

And you get downvoted. I did not see the game. However, all I heard said about the dbs was LSU got used in man to man all day.

No needed to send the 5th guy. The fifth guy needed to be disguised. Stevens and the 6th guy was obvious and never bait for next play or series

While Ricks looked great at times, he got torched too. He’s a freshman, not mad at that.

Dbs were gassed...look up the mesh concept... shallow cross is what announcers call it. Leach ran that concept probably 30 times yesterday and the dbs are running with them. If it’s zone, the wr’s sit, if it’s man, they run. With the rb having 150 on wheel routes, the ilb’s have to run with them and weren’t able to. Also, leach, mumme, et al, run free release concepts. Ilb’s come on a blitz, they release on the wheel. 2 man works great until they go 5 wide and the safety has to bump down and cover #2 or #3 receiver leaving 1 high look...
