According to WKRC-TV, Little Miami High School in Morrow, Ohio, opted to suspend Brady Williams and Jarad Bentley after they expressed their support for first responders before a Sept. 11 football game.

Brady, a senior cornerback whose father is a police officer, said that he was not trying to make a political statement at all in carrying the Thin Blue Line flag.

"I was just doing it to honor the people that lost their lives 19 years ago," he said.

Jarad — whose father is a firefighter — carried the Thin Red Line flag and told WKRC that he was thinking about his father at the time.

The station reports that Brady and Jarad requested permission from the school ahead of time, but were reportedly denied.

Superintendent Gregory Power told the station that he was sticking firmly to the decision.

"We can't have students who decide to do something anyway after they've been told that they shouldn't be doing it," Power said, arguing that the apparently divisive flags were symbols of political controversy.

"We did not want to place ourselves in a circumstance where another family might want a different flag to come out of the tunnel, one that may be [one that] many other families may not agree with from a political perspective," Power reasoned.

So many mixed messages being sent these days.

I saw a tweet that said they reviewed it and determined it wasn't politically motivated, so they reinstated them.

So the schools decided to take politics out of sports?

Shouldn't y'all be happy about this?

In my opinion, football is no place to be bringing political views regardless of whether I agree with those views or not. I’m glad the school put a stop to it.

Lesson learned here...better to ask for forgiveness than permission

Were they told not to do it? Was it against the rules to do it? If so, good. Follow the rules. If kids ran with a BLM flag, y’all would be celebrating them getting suspended.

That being said, I’m glad to see the young men support the police. Good for them.

There is some good counter arguments about law enforcement being political. I'm a fireman, love police, see them protect us in ems, deliver first aid before we get there, and overall are great to work with. Then comes the unions. I'm in the minority in my department not in a union, but when police and fire unions start backing political candidates it's a bad look imo. Even all these police unions backing Trump I don't care for, especially the more I think about it, and I'm a Trump guy.

I understand unions of a police department is supposed to be separate than the department in itself, but that's not how it looks to the general public. Police and Fire unions need to stop backing political candidates. I don't think police and fire as they are, are political, but, when you add the unions, it makes it that way. That's just my opinion.

I'll also agree my understanding of unions isn't great, so maybe someone can educate me if I"m wrong on my line of thought. I'm only political on here, irl I don't pay much attention, and definitely don't care for getting into politics with my work. I just wanna make runs, teach someone stuff, and go home.

Morrow county is hardcore farmer/redneck territory. Surprised they weren't granted permission but they asked and were denied and decided to do it anyway.

So dumb kids asked a dumb question to a dumb administration, got a dumb answer and did a dumb thing anyway and now have to suffer the dumb consequences they knew were coming.

My lawyers would be making a phone call first thing tomorrow morning.

School can't prohibit free speech on govt property.
