I’ve got a good amount (>1,000) FMJ for practice, but what do I want for practical use?

Sounds like you got the rounds you need already. Did you not see homeboys bicep from Kenosha?

Practical use? Whatever is in your chamber at the time will suffice.

A FMJ out of a 5.56 is moving so fast I imagine the shock of a direct chest hit will liquify a lot of lung/heart/other organs. It’s going through and will injure/kill innocents that are behind your target.

That’s the problem with the round for CQB rifle; there is no such round for that gun that won’t go through a person and then into others, through walls, etc.

American Eagle 62 grain green tip is my favorite 5.56 ammo, but with the current ammo shortage, I'll buy whatever brass AR ammo I can find.

Anything will work. I used to keep mine stoked with 55 gr soft points.

Any expanding round is going to expand very violently at close range and might not even get full penetration. Its really not that big of a concern if you land rounds on target

There are thousands and thousands of bodies in the ground that were put there with 5.56 fmj.

You can say this about any military caliber for fmj. That doesn’t help OP.

I don’t know 5.56 or else I’d comment further.

Barnes 70 grain or Black hills mk262. Fmj will absolutely be good enough to stop a threat though.

I have some tracer rounds. I imagine the burning ball of fire through their chest might be best for self defense.

A 55 or 62 gr pill trucking at 3000 fps is gonna do plenty of damage from the cavitation alone, much less the deformation of the round.

I have some federal fusion .223 for deer. I have used them with great success on pigs with zero pass-through

Hijack. I’ve been toying with the idea of a mini 14 for hunting <150 yards. I’m assuming the .223 has given you success? I’ve had some hesitation with that round for white tail

To quote my Afghan theater Marine veteran friends, god enough to kill the Taliban, good enough to kill rioters and looters.

I wouldn’t hunt whitetail with a 223 and I wouldn’t buy a mini 14 right now because the prices are INSANE

I’ve actual thought about selling mine with the way prices the way they are

For self defense, hot lead will work.

If you’re wondering about accuracy down range while maintaining velocity and maximum potential... well that’s more technical than what I know
