Heading down in the morning to bring a generator and supplies to my mother In law, check with other family and check out my condo.

Expecting some wild sights. I’ll keep y’all updated

Appreciate all the help in this thread.

To my fellow Sugar Beach owner...saw a picture she appears as a rock on the highest hill on the city. Baring roof or window leaks we should be in business.

That’s awesome! A few friends, here in the estates, reported power around 3. I’m hoping we’ll be back soon.

Hang in there. I’m hearing power is popping up all over the county. Timbercreek and Churchill supposedly have power as well. Let us know when u come back on.

The Safir Simpson scale does not take into consideration factors like the speed of movement or amount of rain or tornado impact.
Some cat 1’s have more tornado activity than cat 2 or 3. Some cat 3 move in and out real fast and do less damage than a 1 that sits a long time or rains a lot it sits and rains!

It’s time for a new scale!

The category is mainly for relaying general strength to the public. I wide ranging survey of the impacts are done starting as soon after a storm as it is safe to do so and continued well into the offseason. The offseason report is where the true extent of impacts is tallied. It sometimes sees upgrades in a storm's category, like Michael recently. It is also what determines if a name will be retired or not. We have everything from a Tropical Storm to a Category 5 Hurricane that have been retired.

It isn't really feasible to have a real time scale that is fully encompassing of all potential impacts. It takes time and response to determine the true impact of any storm.

You know I will.

Laying here in the dark silence is such an incredible and surreal contrast to last night... if I would have known then...

TIKE could be used to an extent. It at least takes size into account as well as wind speed but might not be great for a small intense storm.

House I was renting had two massive oak trees go through the den . Luckily everyone is safe and we were able to get most of my stuff out today, but that house is totaled. Last night was the scariest night of my life.

There's never going to be a perfect scale. Hell, with the SS we have two parameters to assess, and they are rarely cut and dry. I guess you could throw in size and speed of movement, but that won't really change much. NHC sets the base intensity forecast and other NWS entities follow up with the particulars, be it high wind, surge, flash flood, tornado, etc.

I guess I'm not in the pile on more expectations mood right now in regards to the NHC.

Sure.

I'm more thinking in an ideal world anyway.

It damn sure wasn't the shark.

And we got the "longest thread in history" one earlier, albeit a bit disingenuously.

Good to hear. We’re still out at my house off Jimmy Faulkner. I saw about 4 or 5 trees that fell on power lines so who knows how long it’s going to be before we’re back on
