It’s not a good idea. That’s a strong argument for not swinging on a guy in a gas station.

I haven't defended him. Anyone yelling at others and insulting them is wrong, but the dude laying hands is criminal. You should not hit someone over words.

end of story.

There’s multiple meanings of “I’m straight.” Sorry, Pappy.

For those of you feigning ignorance...typical...it is universally accepted that referring to a black man as a boy is a racist slur. But does it matter if the guy was a racist or not? Acted a fool, got what any grown man knows is possible if you gonna act a fool.

How do you know?

Where is the video 5 minutes prior to this clip?

So why are you advocating that he assume he's unarmed?

For the record, that's separate from punching him. But you essentially stated he should have deemed him unharmed as a way to gauge how minimal or not the threat was, but it seems you've clarified the opposite.

His tone was obviously insulting. And it still doesn’t justify the black guy hitting him. That’s not the social contract. If we can hit people whose words anger us, society descends into chaos
Agreed on all points, though there is certainly a reasonable discussion to be had as to whether there is a point at which words might violate the NAP.

Serious question: Do you believe that I have argued anywhere in this thread that the Black guy was legally- or socially-justified in decking the older guy?

What’s grandpa gonna do? Beat the shite out of me? Yeah okay. He sure as shite ain’t gonna stab or shoot me on camera in full view of several other people.

The loud obnoxious fricks aren’t the ones you need to watch out for.

Assuming you'll just be able to win a fight at any point in time so that makes it ok to put your guard down is never a good idea.

Assuming everyone is out to get you ain’t the way to go through life, son.

I never said he "charged" but he 100% did approach him in a threatening manner. Just by nature of the heated argument, the distance they were from each other, then 1 guy approaches the other directly...I don't see how there's any way to logically argue that was NOT him approaching the other dude in a threatening manner.

I guess bloody vaginas gauge threat level differently from most people.

For 9 pages, we've had a discussion on whether "boy" is racist or not. The guy didn't swing in response to being called "boy." He turned his back to the old man after being called "boy", apparently ready to move on. Old man kept at it and he got punched.

Again, not defending the punch but it's like we've had 9 pages of comments from posters who haven't watched that video.

Then every BLM protester who gets in the face of a person eating dinner or minding their own business is now an open target for an cheap shot.

If the person getting in someone's face does not realize that they could find themselves being physically attacked for having done so they are a moron. It ain't a cheap shot when someone is begging for an arse whupping and you oblige them.

How is this a cheap shot? Old dude was asking what the young man was going to do...was the young man supposed to get into some sort of stance? Old man was approaching the young man verbally assaulting him...the young man would have been justified in shooting the guy graveyard dead in stand your ground states...who knows what the guy is going to do as he is advancing??? Shoot him or be killed...doesn't matter if he doesn't have a weapon who knows what he is going to produce or do as he is advancing on the young man???

The only person who posted a racial term in this thread got his message deleted and is hopefully in ban land.

Notice how none of the posters that said “boy” are banned... know why? Cuz “boy” is calling someone a child. Demeaning their intelligence. Not their race.

Unnecessary pejoratives aside, I agree with you. I don't see the old guy as having acted in a physically-threatening manner. He stepped forward and pointed toward the cash register.

He was being an arse, but that is a different question entirely.
