I don't see the old guy as having acted in a physically-threatening manner.
A person yelling at you saying "what are you gonna do?" from a safe distance, then walks directly right up to you...that's not any way, shape or form them doing so in a threatening manner?

Why do you think he walked up on him then? Especially after continually saying "what are you gonna do?"

Violence is violence and if you are supporting the young man's right to hit the old man, then you cannot draw the line at the level of violence...

That young man could have killed or severely injured the old man with one punch... So, where are you going to draw the line on what level of violence is acceptable and what line is not?

Like I said, you folks do not know what you are asking for...

If the roles were reversed in a stand your ground state and an old white man killed a young black man doing exactly the same thing all of you would be extolling the virtues of stand your ground. The young man had turned his back and get on with life...old man advanced. Who knows what his intentions were at that point? Young man was standing his ground. Y'all ought to be extolling the virtues of that. Instead its a young black man so he is a violent animal who attacked a white man.

You may want to check who made the post, idiot. It wasn’t me.

Didn’t post this.

He wasn’t looking to fight or he would’ve been ready. His words said the same thing. “What are you going to do in front of everyone?” Don’t be stupid.

Who said anything about him looking to fight? He wasn't just walking up the line. He continued to yell and bark at him. For the 3rd time, I don't think that justifies a punch but you left a little info out of your characterization of the events.

Try being honest for once.

As long as you keep that same stance when some random dude trying to eat his lunch in peace gets up and punches a BLM protestor who is right in his face yelling at him, I'll at least respect the consistency.

PT as a whole is being inconsistent for some reason.

He wasn’t “approaching him.” The cash register was vacant. It was the assailant’s turn to check out. The old man was just moving up in line.

That’s true. He also said “git your arse...”

But he wasn’t advancing on him to fight. The line should’ve been moving. That’s why he said “git your arse.” There’s no need to falsely characterize it as him threatening the assailant.

I agree as an overall point. Saying that, i grew up in south carolina. IF you ever said "boy" to a black kid you may as well get ready to defend yourself cause the hail of punches is on the way.

And if you said it to someone who was was in a group then expect to defend yourself against at least 3..

twelve pages to argue this point is just ridiculous.

Rewatch the video. The assailant is next in line for the register. That’s why the old white man says “get your arse...”. The line was moving.

The cash register had just become available.

After "what you gonna do," he pointed at the register and said something like "Get your arse up there and make..." right before he got decked. He was saying (to paraphrase) "pay for your shite and get out of here." That is a long way from a physical threat, in my book. Opinions can vary.

What offends me? That question makes no sense.

The funny thing here is I'm the consistent one, i'm not the one changing my stance on similar issues just to fit some preconceived opinion I have. My consistency has been on point, so no clue what you're even trying to go for asking if I'm offended, that doesn't even make sense.

You can try to clarify, or just realize it was a failed gotcha moment and shuffle on to your next subpar talking point.

This is the same guy that said someone wouldn't have shot someone else in a heated exchange because people and cameras were around.

You have a huge string of senseless replies on this thread. You are very triggered.

I agree that would be a false characterization but old baw wasn't letting it die even after the guy tried to disengage. He wasn't just moving up the line to pay.

Projection... nice... doesn't work here... So you are basically saying that this board would support the white man shooting the black man for speaking words at him?

No, I certainly would not and most here would not either...

quote:

Who knows what his intentions were at that point?

The old man advanced in line, other than that you do not know his intentions...

It is hilarious that you are advocating for the right of someone to punch someone for hurling insults at them but stop at throwing punches...

BTW, stand your ground would have been the old man shooting the young black man when he was on the ground and the young black man continued to advance...

Not interesting in the least.

We don't know what happened between the two in this video, but you go to lunch, spend your money for a meal, then get subhuman trash get in your face while you are trying to have a quiet meal.

Apples to Oranges comparison, but nice try.
