Most come with 2, but that’s not even sufficient for range days.

At $45 a piece...a couple more for now will have to work.

I have at least 3 for all my pistols. But my XDs came with a bonus pack with 3 additional plus the 2 that come with it.

Most require 4-6 mags. I’d always bring a few extra from what they require as your inevitably going to lose one or break one along the way. Just like ammo you can never have too many mags...having to stop every other course of fire to reload is no bueno.

I have 6 now. 14-15 rounds ea. I have gone deep into the third one on a stage of fire because I missed alot. Like on a 32 shot stage.

The more you have and stuff the night before the less you have to do during the class that allows more time to take a break, hydrate, relax, jot down some notes on exercises you’ve done since the last break, etc.
I typically have 10ish per weapon system.

If you’re down to using your sidearm, the fight is almost over for you anyway. Rifle mags are far more important ??

What kind of course? A training course/class or a USPSA style competition course?
For a training class they usually specify how many you need when you sign up. I normally bring 6 to a class. I have not used more than three before they will let you take a break and reload.
For a competition course it really depends on the style of match you shoot. Some like steel challenge you only need 3-4 if you don't miss much. Some like USPSA you may need 2-3 for limited class, or 5-6 for production class.
I typically have 5 mags per pistol that I own, more if I shoot the gun more regularly.

Guess it depends.
My Walther PPS, I have three that came with it: a 6, 7 and 8-rounder.
My PPQ 45, I just have the two 12s that came with it.
Glock 26, I have the three 10-rounders it came with, two 12-rounders with pinky extension and two 33-rounders (for fun).
Scorpion, I have two 20s that came with it and five 35s.
