I'm willing to buy used if that will help keep costs down. I was suggested Seiko, which I like overall, but it looks like the cheapest I can get is about $300.

I've had a citizen nighthawk eco drive for 5+ years that I love. It's not super fancy, but I wear it fishing, etc and it still looks great. Looks like you can get one for close to your price now a days.

Do you know if you can get a rubber strap for it? I should've put that in the OP.

Looks like there's some third party offerings. Looks pretty nice too.

Orient - Ray or Mako - dive looks

If you actually need a watch for diving then there are digital that are much better

I saw this one and really like it even though it is out of my set price range.

I was going to try to hit up some local pawn shops or jewelers/watch shops for any pre-owned merchandise.

You can get a good Timex Marathon digital for $50-$75. The one I've got is rated for 100 meters.

Dive watch for the look or dive watch for durability?

I'm hard on watches. Hell I'm hard on everything. I have a few dead seikos in the watch box because of it. Either gouge the cases all up or hit them hard enough on the tractor or swimming, they stop working.

You can find used Pepsis like above for 170ish or so with a few bands on eBay.
About 6 months ago I bought a casio gw-5610b

Looks like a cheap casio, weighs four times as much, solar, updates time on atomic clock.

I have yet to even put a scratch on it.

A bit of both. If you can't be the part, you need to look the part. Seriously, I like watches, I have about 7 right now. I'm actually going to take diving lessons soon (want to dive between the tectonic plates in Iceland) and just wanting a new watch, so why not a dive watch.

Haven’t dive computers made actual watches?

A friend of mine has a Casio dive watch and it still functions fine after 35 years.
I have an Invicta Sub Aqua gold tone. Sam’s Club has them for under $200 now. They used to be priced near $300.

I can't imagine diving without a computer. Dive watches had their place I guess, but I can't think of a reason to use one now. And a dive computer can be had for sub $200.

OP, if you want to look the part, go buy some split fins and a Shearwater.

Always the right answer ;) I have two.

To the OP: don't get a dive watch for diving.

One answer only.

Seiko SKX007 or 009.

It checks every box very well. Near your budget (used $150). Very durable and tough. Good looking. 300m rating. Very well known to wristwatch collectors and celebrated as an excellent watch but not flashy or crazy. Automatic movement so no batteries to go bad. I have beat the shite out of mine repeatedly to the point I would not sell it but it still runs great. Also there is definite resale value if you ever decide you don’t want it.

As others have mentioned it’s not a primary dove tool anymore but great swimming, fishing, working with hands, in the woods, etc... and as backup when diving.

Short of dropping serious coin on a Submariner, it’s my recommendation,

Is this for diving or looks?

I would consider a Glycene Combat Sub in the price range you are in and never look back, 200 meters water resistant and powered by a Swiss automatic movement is a damn fine deal.

Ebay will have them new around $300

Everybody has a Seiko especially the SKX.

If you really want to save a bit of cash and just get something that will work a Seiko 5 Diver would do, they run around $150.
