Pretty sure 17 seasons as an assistant coach means you don’t get your own tree.

Sort of a chicken or the egg scenario but it depends on how you look at it. Really, basketball coaching is just one big tree with different branches. Most of these guys are "related" in some way, there aren't that many true outsiders that make it to the highest level.

I mean you could argue Popovich doesn't have a tree because he's from the Larry Brown tree, if you want to get reductive.

Budenholzer has a lot of assistants getting jobs and doing well.

I don’t agree with McNamara hardly ever

But I do see a POC being hired here

I have no idea what McNamard said about it, but this franchise has met it's POC quota.

1378 total games since moving to New Orleans. 1223 of those have been coached by POCs. 73 were coached inexplicably by the Walrus and 82 by Floyd.

While I understand there will be pressure, you can't fault the organization at this point. They've been more progressive than damn near any other franchise in the league in that regard.

There’s no rhyme or reason as to who turns out to be a good coach vs. who doesn’t other than maybe circumstance.

Bottom line is that some of us will love the new hire. Some of us will hate the new hire. And all of us won’t know dick about what makes him or her a good or bad coach.

I think I can remove Calipari from my signature. I've seen him mentioned, so Mark Jackson needs to stay. Not sure who I should add.

Charles Lee based on this article looks like a good fit to me Milwaukee Bucks: Darvin Ham, Charles Lee considered enticing coaching candidates

quote:

“Few assistant coaches saw a bigger season-to-season jump in our informal poll than Charles Lee, 35, who’s in his sixth season working under Mike Budenholzer in Atlanta and now Milwaukee. Fans of Lee, who played professionally overseas before spending a couple of years as an equity trader on Wall Street, tout him as a five-tool coach who is every bit as comfortable having meaningful conversations with a backup point guard as he is dining with a team owner. Those who have worked with him say he has an intuitive sense of how to inspire improvement from players but also understands high-level strategy and the preparation required to implement it. He is, in the words of one peer, someone who is “categorically going to be an NBA head coach.””

We need a disciplinarian coach, not a friend. We also need someone who excels at developing players, as we will have a ton of youth on this roster for the foreseeable future.

I'm very much warming up to Adrian Griffin as a choice.

Dude fought his arse off to get into the league as a player, playing in DLeague and so on for years before he made it.

Has worked his way into coaching and has coached under some really, really good coaches. Nurse has praised the hell out of him and called him instrumental. Gave him the task of being the HC the other night in the bubble.

Known for coaching Defense...

That's how you end up with this dude

We just need someone who is organized and prepared and has high expectations and standards. Yelling and running suicides doesn't work in the NBA

Or Beilin with the Cavs. I know what people mean by disciplinary tho. They want someone that’s capable of pushing the best out of their players. But yeah a strict coach in the nba is a bad idea. Gotta find a balance

What were those allegations? All i see about him right now is that he coached the last raptors game instead of Nurse
