I don't really want a guy where this is his first NBA coaching gig. Stackhouse just doens't have enough NBA coaching experience for me to take a chance on him.
Definitely don't want a retread like Gentry, or even a Thibs, or a Van Gundy like some idiot will eventually say.

I'd prefer Kenny Atkinson as my coached before guy.
If i'm taking an assistant, I like Unseld, who's a defensive guy. Charles Lee seems too young for this. Darvin Ham would be a contender.

just like when everyone knew ATL was fricking it up by firing Budenholzer, we all know the Nets are fricking it up by firing Atkinson

Exactly. They let that crazy person dictate the future of their team. I'm sure KD was involved too.

But Atkinson is STILL getting tons of praise from former players not named Kyrie or KD.

Jarrett Allen was heaping praise upon him two weeks ago when he was in play for the Knicks job.

i mean i'll say this. with our talented young guys, IF they had the same sort of praise/ethic that meshed with Atkinson, i think the sky is the limit

the NBA has a bad history that doesn't make me too optimistic of this

Atkinson is harder on his stars. That last not something Kyrie or KD are built for.

One of the things I read was his unwillingness to budge on his “equal opportunity offense” is what Kyrie and KD couldn’t get past. That’s sort of how the Pels are already set up so I wouldn’t see that as a problem.

Is Gentry getting fired pretty much a sure thing? Sorry for the ignorance. Haven't really been keeping up.

Unfortunately no. I'd put the odds at pretty low given the challenges of this offseason.

I will say, one thing that will drive people a bit crazy on here with KA is that he really likes to distribute minutes and rotate players a lot. He in general does not play starters big minutes.

The smart thing would've been to tell gentry that we didn't feel comfortable with him in the bubble and then allow Finch to run the team for the last couple of months to see what that looks like. If you like it, promote him to head coach next year, if you don't, go out and get someone like Atkinson. Instead we've just wasted all of this time.

My personal theory on NBA regular season: effort wins. I love the idea of keeping guys rotating. Give 100%/close to 100% while you are in and hit the bench when fatigue hits. A backup giving it his all is often times better than a starter on coast.

NBA playoffs are a diff story.
