There’s plenty of young promising HC’s in the league. Atkinson is the most talked about, but Charles Lee, Pat Delaney, David Adelman, and Wes Unseld Jr are others.

Then of course our own Chris Finch.

But Charles Lee is a guy I like. Been with Mike Budenholzer for the precious 6 seasons, in both Atlanta and Milwaukee

I like Atkinson but if I had my choice I'd get Jerry Stackhouse to leave Vandy. Stack is a leader with ties to Ingram that would push and motivate the team, and you can bring in whatever assistants you need to cover his weaknesses.

Glad to see majority are in an agreement for him. If you remember last go round, nobody wanted Gentry. I know I was disappointed.

Gentry is an amazing assistant coach. But head coach, he is horrible. Anyone besides these old recyclable coaches with losing records. I want Becky Hammon.

I am intrigued by Lee too, but his youth and inexperience worry me a little bit with a younger team. Gentry’s laidback, player’s-coach mentality just doesn’t fit with this team because we don’t have a vocal enough leader on the floor to take charge when things get a little tight. You can tell by the work ethic of the young guys that this team is desperate for, and would thrive with, someone bringing more structure and discipline. I don’t think it’s coincidental that Gentry’s best season here coincided with Rondo being on the team and bringing an alpha mentality.

If we are going the Bucks assistant route, I have been wondering for a while if Darvin Ham would be the better fit. He has a reputation for being tougher than Lee and is praised for his player development skills. Might be a better fit, but I’d be happy if we ended up with either one next year.

Totally agree. Atkinson or Stackhouse would be great choices.

Stackhouse was one of the top up and coming assistants before taking the Vandy job. He interviewed with the Raptors and said he turned down interviews with 2 other NBA teams to take the Vandy job.

Stackhouse will be an NBA HC sooner rather than later. Teams have been circling him for a bit now.

What’s Stackhouses philosophies when it comes to coaching? His vandy team was horrible defensively

Even if he targeted the Vandy job, you have to think "Hey what do you think about coming to the league and coaching Zion and BI?" would be an intriguing proposition.

Don’t think he’s a total X and Os guy. More of a big picture and motivator.

He claims his defensive philosophy is “toughness”. Play tough. Man to man. Everything starts at the defensive end.

His offense is pace but he claims it has to be adapted to personnel so will change based on that.

Not a players coach per se. definitely more of a taskmaster than buddy.

But that’s just based on interviews with him. I don’t know the reality.

These quotes are from when he took the job at Vanderbilt.

quote:

“No one wants to play at a quicker pace than me,” said Stackhouse. “We want to get out, run, rebound the ball.”

Stackhouse also discussed the importance of keeping a fluid offensive philosophy, especially in college when rosters change every year with incoming freshmen, transfers, and early NBA Draft entrants.

He said, “I’m not coming in necessarily with an offensive philosophy. I think a lot of that is based on your personnel. So if I got a guy that I can throw the ball to, I know everybody wants to shoot a ton of threes, if I have a guy efficient on the block, we want to take advantage of that. If we have shooter, we want to take advantage of that.”

Stackhouse’s defensive philosophy is more simple and is based on the principle that toughness challenges shooters and can help win basketball games even if the offense is not having its best night. “What you can do is give yourself an opportunity to win by being real staunch on the defensive end. That’s where my teams have been in the past,” said Stackhouse.

Play fast on offense and physical on defense. It doesn’t sound like he has strong ties to any particular system. If you hire him I would want top level assistants, but Griffin has shown that’s what he wants to do.

I want Atkinson, Wes Unseld or Darvin Ham.

Not sure I want to take the risk on Stack. But he’s going to get a gig at some point.

Atkinson is just a slam dunk in my opinion. Very good coach. Good player developer. Very very hard on his “stars” which is what we need imo. Players not named Kyrie and KD have come out raving about him and think very highly.

Damn good coach.
