Pretty dumb they have not put one. What happens if we loose LC with this storm. Then we only have the northern one and Slidell.
I think Ramah or Rosedale would be the ideal site. Covers Lafayette and Baton Rouge both.
I've been complaining about this for years. I don't know what it takes to set one up, but it never happened.

So storm surge question for those that are knowledgeable on storm surge. If you are in vermillion parish, 8 miles north of the beach, what should you expect the storm surge to be. I hear storm surge drops 1’/ per mile, is this accurate. Any other good guidance?

People are at home and see a 75 mph hurricane a couple of days out and they think it's no big deal. We're weather nerds so we know the forecast is for it to strengthen but most people don't look at that and only see the current wind speed.
How do we/they message that risk better?
Come in too aggressive with every storm people think you hype everything.

Raman would be a good site. I don’t know the process either but I bet it is incredibly expensive.

TWC is awful. Dude in Lake Charles reporting that what is happening with the weather right now is just the appetizer. What a shitty thing to say to people who are going to lose everything. frick that dude, Tevin.

Does the Accuweather channel have a live stream for those of us that don't have satellite TV?
On a side note I was watching this past weekend at someone else's house and Mark Mancuso, one of the original TWC mets is working for Accuweather.

Brief vertical wind shear (VWS) loop last 12h before #Hurricane #Laura's landfall. Guidance is consistent VWS increases quite a bit in the last 6h before impact.
Not enough time for significant weakening Frowning face, but I do not expect RI to continue to the coast like in Michael (2018).

The good thing about storms like Katrina and Rita that bottom out a couple of days out in the Gulf is they get everyone's attention and people take notice and evacuate.
The problem with storms like Laura that max out on the day they make landfall is people don't pay attention and take them as seriously and by they time they do it's too late. Harvey strengthened late and caught people off guard. The same happened with Michael.
I follow the weather here and there ( ) and I still couldn't convince my inlaws in Crowley and Rayne to come stay with us. They called an hour ago or so and now they're worried as hell.
People spent most of the week shitting on the NHC for Marco while a monster was brewing - a monster the NHC was telling you had this potential.

One of my dad's employees lives right off I-10 near the Creole/Cameron exit. He told my dad that he was staying.
I tried to explain to my dad that this guy is in trouble, but neither of them seem to grasp the reality of this storm.

bottom half of that storm is gonna come crashing in on the Baton Rouge area by tomorrow morning. The eyeball is powerful but I see nothing to stop that south side from pounding eastern LA. Plus once it hit land it’s gonna move north and then east as a front takes over... gonna be a rough couple days for the whole state.
And just like that I feel much better about the effects felt here in BR. Best of luck SW La and Texas...
