From Twitter:

BREAKING: The state of Texas has sent two C130 aircraft to Port Arthur to provide what the city calls a “last chance” evacuation ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Laura. The aircraft landed at Jack Brooks Airport to evacuate up to 80 people to Dallas.

Pretty dumb they have not put one. What happens if we loose LC with this storm. Then we only have the northern one and Slidell.

I'm thinking about all the people in southwest Louisiana riding it out in their home.
The good thing about storms like Katrina and Rita that bottom out a couple of days out in the Gulf is they get everyone's attention and people take notice and evacuate.
The problem with storms like Laura that max out on the day they make landfall is people don't pay attention and take them as seriously and by they time they do it's too late. Harvey strengthened late and caught people off guard. The same happened with Michael.
People are at home and see a 75 mph hurricane a couple of days out and they think it's no big deal. We're weather nerds so we know the forecast is for it to strengthen but most people don't look at that and only see the current wind speed.
Those monster storms days out in the Gulf scare people into leaving. Storms that strengthen late and aren't as strong out in the Gulf don't.

My heart is starting to sink a little more each hour for everyone in SWLA.
Mine as well.
Perhaps a silver lining, perhaps not, but only 7 direct deaths were attributable to Michael in Florida 2 years ago. The other 43 were from indirect deaths like CO poisoning, electrocution, accidents, medical complications, etc.

On a video conference this morning I turn tv to TWC at 7:00 to see the update and get them talking about the potential for power outages in Kentucky.
UGGGHHHHH. We went for two weeks without power with Ike.

The bottom half of that storm is gonna come crashing in on the Baton Rouge area by tomorrow morning. The eyeball is powerful but I see nothing to stop that south side from pounding eastern LA. Plus once it hit land it’s gonna move north and then east as a front takes over... gonna be a rough couple days for the whole state.
Translation: Baton Rouge, East LA and the rest of the state has nothing to worry about

Lot of people on roofs tonight waiting to get rescued, can already see the writing on the wall

Who owns that house past Prien Park with the big gold fricking gate and thinks they are some feudal barons with that monstrosity of a home?
I hear like three people live there.
Talk about out pricing the area.

Gets mentioned by every mayor ever in these situations. I’d be surprised if it hasn’t happened already.
Saw on the local news Vermillion Parish Official said if you stay write your name, SSN and next of kin on a paper, seal it in a zip lock bag and put in it n your pocket.
That’s pretty serious

Not sure there is any "if" about it. LC radar is almost assuredly going down.
