had a pool. A tree fell on it during Katrina and ruined it. Not to be dissuaded, I rebuilt. During Gustav, another huge tree fell on the pool, destroying it again. The second time, I got the message. God doesn’t want me to have a pool. Moral - read the “signs.”
Yeah those above ground pools don’t last.

Can you get a decent pool for 75k
In my head that's the bare minimum these days, but shite might just be expensive right now

Yeah $75k gets you a fine pool

I'd go with a smaller pool. Kids have just as much fun. I'd also go with a big screened in one.

If you have young children, it will be the best thing your ever did. I spent $19K on a in-ground liner pool in 2000, and my kids had a million dollars of fun!

We're just starting to look into it and like the integrated natural look (I have no idea what you actually call it). Also idea of the pros/cons, just prefer the aesthetic and appears to fit better with the houses we're scouting

-They add no value to your house
-They are a good bit of work and expense to keep up
-if you get tired of it, there is no good exit strategy...you have to break it up it up and fill with dirt.

They're expensive and a lot of work to maintain and after you've had one for a while you kind of start to take it for granted and it starts to fall into disuse. We had one at my parents' house growing up, and that was my experience. YMMV. But like anything else expensive it's worth it if you use it. In the right circumstances I might consider getting one for myself as an adult.

Everyone is going to talk about how when they were a child how much upkeep it was.
Don't listen to them, a gunite salt water pool takes less than an hour of maintenance a week of you don't have a ton of trees around. Even with lots of trees, it's maybe an extra 30 min.
They are going to talk about how expensive chemicals are....not for the newer gunite salt water pools. Maybe a bag of salt every other week, a gallon of acid a month and maybe 2 things of shock a month.
We loved ours and we are building a new house...if we can squeeze it on the budget, we are doing it. We loved ours. We had a mesh fence installed directly around the pool as we have young kids, this is in addition to a privacy fence.
We used the hell out of it and with my kids still being younger than 10, I expect to get more then a decade of use out of a new one. I loved the hot tub on cold nights, especially football Saturday nights where I could watch the games, drink beer and relax.
They are expensive though. We have gotten quotes from the two most reputable in our area and 36x16 plus hit tub is running between 60-70.

Wrapping up the decking on this bad boy. I’d say check the pump and equipment grade and coping if it’s getting done for 75k. Seems low.

I put one in once, enjoyed the hell out of it at first, then rejoiced when I sold the house.

Do it. I just finished mowing and I'm about to get in mine with an ice chest full of beer. Not much feels better on a Sunday afternoon.

Infinity edge with all the bells and whistles for 90k.
Started first week of June. Wont be done till end of Aug. Takes forever.

No appreciation, actually makes homes stay on the market longer, and higher utility bills.

As someone that buys and sells real estate for a living, you're way off amigo.

We use ours all the time. The kids love it.

Always better to buy a house with a pool that someone else paid to put in. However, if you have the cash and you really want one go for it.
1. I spend somewhere between 100-200 on chemicals a year and do it all myself.
2. I spent 700 on a robot vac and it was the best decision ever.
3. I spend about 30 minutes a week spread across 2-3 days messing with the pool. I enjoy that time and listen to podcast or ebooks.
If you have 75 cash laying around and are at least entertaining it I assume you are well off enough financially to do it. 75k puts in a pretty awesome pool.
