I’m pretty sure the demographic for Kenilworth is a lot more black than they think.

So if your yard is destroyed or home destroyed is this Kyle guy responsible?

He should be.

Paintball gun for deterrence, and a side piece if they begin attacking might be a suggestion someone could make for those in the neighborhood.

Spent a lot of time around there in my 20s. Feels like they’re attacking my neighborhood.

Is it too obvious to ask why isn’t this being done in NBR?

This is being organized by BLM of South Baton Rouge. The following is from the next door app:

Black Lives Matter South Baton Rouge has organized a vigil for Saturday 7/18 at 9 AM. The event will be in solidarity of the Black Lives Matter movement. We will be occupying the medians of Kenilworth subdivision on July 18th from 9am to 11am. In order to keep a safe distance and avoid the spread of COVID-19 we are requiring attendees to wear a mask and spread-out on medians. We also ask that attendees park at either Kenilworth Middle School, Olympia Park, or on side streets in accordance with all East Baton Rouge Parish traffic laws. No parking on private property. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, live stream, and post to social media using the hashtag #BLMSBR (Black Lives Matter South Baton Rouge). Bottled water will be provided.

We hope you will join us for a peaceful vigil in support of our black brothers and sisters.

Responses:

Oh we all from Livingston parish will be there!!! Backing our officers and protecting our community!!!

No! Why can’t you organize this kind of thing in your own neighborhood, Magnolia Woods?

U now what's gonna happen huh? Ask yourself why in a neighborhood? Its gonna get out of hand and the are gonna start breaking in houses and try and burn the down??? We need too stand up and show up with the police!!!

From the Event's Facebook page

July 3 ·
Because I’ve had someone reach out to me and ask why this March was being held in Kennilworth subdivision I felt like it would be a good idea to give some background on this event.

The march originated on the Nextdoor app for the Magnolia Woods/Kennilworth/Walden subdivisions. A group of neighbors in these subdivisions came together and planned the event. This group was made up of people of diverse ages and races. Our ultimate decision to march in Kennilworth was done because of the accessibility of sidewalks through the neighborhood. There was no attempt to make a statement by choosing Kennilworth specifically. The core belief of this march was as a show of support for our neighbors and solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We would hope that more who live in South Baton Rough (and the larger Baton Rouge area) join us in marching. The door remains open for anyone who chooses to do so.

Curious if any member of the Mag Woods, Walden, or Kenilworth Civic Association board gave tacit or implicit approval. I live a block away on Rodney. It will probably be a bunch of peaceful college kids but considering the political climate this really should not occur in residential areas and could go sideways really fast.

Name sounds familiar. Is this the same guy that graduated from Dunham in 97 and works for Beta Land Services?

My guess would be, despite all his virtue signaling, Kyle wants to raise a ruckus where he feels safe in doing so. Just looking at him, he’s certainly not brave enough to organize this thing on Plank at Evangeline.

Trafton was around in the 80s. Todd Kinchen played football there.

So do you spend most of your post count going around correcting spelling errors of others?

Thumpin, I live nearby and saw the original post on Nextdoor. They organized putting a few BLM yard signs up and suggested a march through the neighborhood. Some neighbors replied that they did not want to bring this so close to their homes but Kyle and Jessica Harrison (she also lived in Magnolia Woods) don’t seem to care.
I can try to post the whole discussion on the march but I don’t know if that is allowed?

Kenilworth is predominately white middle class neighborhood as is Magnolia Woods, I would say that Walden is upper middle class.

Is he related to the State Farm insurance agency guy on Highland Road near Kenilworth?
