Why are so many people with mild or no symptoms getting tested?

I don’t get this. I’m not going to get tested for something if I have no symptoms or even mild ones. I’m only going to the dr if I’m in need of medical care.
If I have 0 symptoms I assume I’m heeltjy. If I have mild ones I’ll avoid being around people and sit at home just like when I have the flu. I don’t really care to know what it is I have unless I need medical care

contact tracing is a major factor
Posted on 7/13/20 at 1:15 pm to deltaland
When someone with symptoms tests positive, it causes a waterfall of tests for the people they’ve come into contact with.

Probably because they don't want to spread it to their elders. Weird question.

I had a fever. I had to get tested to go back to work.

Some employers are mandating.

Lemme let you in on a little secret. Doctors have been losing a lot of money during this stuff. Elective surgeries are backlogged. Offices were shut down for non emergency patients.
Sooo, they are starting to reach out to the 'feeling fine' community.
It goes like this:
Dr: 'How are you feeling, Mr. Zach.'
Me: 'Never better.'
Dr: 'Well, your tests are good. But our records show that you have never been vaccinated for the epizooti. It's free of charge.'
Me: 'OK'.
Then I get the notice from my insurance company. It was free for me but the doctor got $300 for that shot.

I've heard of people getting tested as a requirement to go back to their job and popping positive without symptoms and never getting sick. Hell we had plenty of college and pro athletes be positive and never get sick. Makes you wonder if we have a stockpile of defective tests producing false positives or if there's a huge number of people who carry the virus but never show symptoms.

Kids going to camp
Someone running fever at work entrance & need a negative test to show they don’t have it

I got sick, no covid symptoms, but I wanted to be sure.
Test came back negative, even though I didn't think I had it, I was shocked.

This. If anyone or anyone in their direct family tests positive we are requiring a test to come back.

People actually talk to contact tracers?

It's important to know how many are infected to get an accurate idea of spread and mortality rates.

Their jobs may require frequent testing.

If healthy people are not getting tested wouldn't that punch a hole in the idea that the numbers are only going up from more tests being administered?

This entire post is awful. You first say elective procedures were canceled (performed by surgeons) then talk about a primary care office giving a vaccination (not a surgeon).
Primary care offices are the only ones not affected as much due to telemedicine and the need for actual Covid testing. The only physicians losing money by way of productivity incentives are elective surgeons, none of which would ever call a patient to offer a vaccine that their clinic never administers, for measly $300

Test positive and get to miss work with pay for 14 days. Required by law they must be paid 2/3 of their average wage. And all of these employers are having to navigate the PPP $ and can’t reduce head count until it expires. Labor market heavily favors the employed or layed off and reemployed.

Who is forcing those people to get tested? I could see where some companies might make employees do it if a co worker tests positive

It’s pointless without symptoms. Are you going to get tested every day? Cause you can be negative today and catch it tomorrow
