re: 2015 study on the use of cloth masks vs medical masks

Look, I’m not a huge mask guy but I wear them now in public just to shut the idiots bitching up. I think space is more important than a mask.
Given that, if two people both have masks on it’s pretty damn common sense it’s harder for them to exchange breath particles.
People aren’t really getting this from touching something. Now if I breath on something and then you immediately touch it and wipe your mouth, sure maybe you get it. But the most important thing is to not be breathing on each other in close quarters. Common sense says masks help to some degree with this. But sure, maybe there’s some sort of science that proves common sense is not true sense here.

quote:That was actually one of Dr. Fauci's claims in that early interview when he said we don't need to wear masks. Wearing a mask requires a degree of care to not be detrimental. It also requires a great deal of self-awareness and restraint. A few things that the general American public are not known for.
The study claims they could be increasing risk/spread. Meaning it’s better to not wear one at all.

No it does not. It literally says that a limitation of the study is that it didn’t compare to no mask.

What happens is people constantly breathe intro a cloth masks and it collects a ton of moisture. It’s not cleaned and touched often. People touch things in public too. Door handles, tables, etc. Someone else touched it and then their mask. There is your spread. No one is close to each other. No one breathed on someone else. But they couldn’t leave their mask alone.

Yes it did. Reread the data and conclusions. With 97% of particles getting through and increased touching and lack of cleaning and more moisture, cloth masks for the general public MAY increase risk.

I wear a mask to the store because I have to. I'm not protesting or looking for confrontation, but that doesn't mean I can't come on here and laugh at the dummies that preach to me about science while wearing their cotton cover over their mouth for the 50th straight day without any sort of attempt to disinfect it.

Signaling virtue is more important than scientific evidence

I been seeing people pull masks out of pockets, purses and even saw someone with a couple hanging off their steering wheel.
The way people are using cloth masks is ridiculous.

Is this the thread where you baws argue for stronger protocols since the current arent effective enough for you?

Yeah plus re-using them.

Or, you know, protocols that actually work instead of make things worse and lengthen any lockdown/mandate because the government has been overreacting from the start.

No, You and the OP are both morons. The cloth masks are not there to protect you. They are to protect other people from you. At that, they are quite good.

Correct. They scream mask mask mask but nothing more.
Proper fit, proper handling (not touching), proper sanitizing, and proper storage are critical to even pretending masks can help.
The reason no one tells anyone these things is because they know the average idiot can't comply and will ultimately say frick all that.
Masking without following a protocol creates a hazard.
Moist, filthy rags draped on faces and being touched 100x an hour.
A net negative.

You are the moron.
As my previous post stated, you can only try to make this claim if the person wearing the mask has a properly fitted mask, worn properly, not touching it at all, changing it often, sanitizing it properly and storing it properly.
If every single one of those things are done properly, you have a case but look around you. The average moron cannot comply with these things even if someone told them they are important, and no one does.
So when not done properly, the masks become filthy hazards. Not a defense but another risk. Another method of transmission.

If you honestly think the government is going to let go of their newfound power I have some swampland to sell you. There will be a new excuse to extend restrictions.
Just get used to it, this isn’t going away until November.
