The economic loss of not playing Texas

Is going to be huge for LSU and Baton Rouge. Not to mention the other non-conference home games that bring in millions of dollars. Hopefully our leaders can do the right thing and let all games happen.

Will there not be an economic gain if every opponent is an SEC team?

We should just keep the Texas game and cancel that trip to Houston to play rice

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SCHEDULE HOME-AND-HOMES AND ALWAYS BEND THE KNEE TO PLAY ON THE ROAD FIRST.
THIS HAPPENED WITH ARIZONA STATE, AND IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN.

the other games would be a financial loss if you cant put fans in the stadium. That's what theyre preparing for. theyre trying to keep conference games because they will still bring a ton of tv money
These school NEED football to happen to stay afloat financially , but its going to be a tough sell to have football with no students on campus and no fans in the stands. I doubt we see any football this fall.

Other than Texas playing the other non-conference games in an empty or close to empty stadium would be a huge money loser for LSU. These games are not being canceled for saftey but because of money.
If there was a way to make money the games would be played. Remember the goal of the athletic department when it comes to home games is to either make money or not lose money. Playing UTSA in an empty stadium will lose money.

If the attendance is limited, it doesn't matter if the games are played or not. LSU nor BR (if still under onerous restrictions) aren't getting much financial benefit by playing Texas in front of a 1/2 to 1/3 full Tiger Stadium. The money comes from the FANS, not simply just playing the game.
The financial DISincentive of playing schools like Nicholls and UTSA is that LSU would still have to pay the 6-7 figure contractual amount to those schools for the game WITHOUT being able to offset that expense with a full Tiger Stadium
I want college football to go forward in FULL just as much, if not more than anyone else. But if they're going to play it with significant attendance restrictions it probably doesn't make that much sense to do so financially...particularly the non-conf. games where LSU pays the opponent for the game.

Both of those games are something that happened outside of LSU and Texas/Arizona State’s control. Katrina or Covid could have just as easily happened on the years LSU travelled to those schools.
Virginia Tech would have helped your narrative more. That game Tech kept pushing back the return trip until 2007.

No, because they won't replace the lost games.

The Big 10 is rumored to be going to ten conference games. I assume the SEC would do the same

It’s not going to be a loss for LSU. They won’t make as much money but you can’t lose something you aren’t going to get. LSU doesn’t set their budget on what might happen they set it on what they have in the bank then reset it after they get the money for things that happened.
The G5 schools set their budget based off of those games with P5 schools being played. They are basically living off credit and that bubble is bursting in 2020.

I downvoted this but want to be clear. I would have downvoted it if you had said rightwing shite stains too.
And I am not downvoting just because its injecting politics into a football board, but also because name calling from either side divides us further. Its tiresome.

If we're playing any type of season, it's guaranteed our leaders will be for it. It will be Texas or the conferences that would thwart it.

That didn't work out well for them

As much as I am a LSU fan, I think college and professional sports will not be wise. How can you close schools because of the virus and then have professional and college sports. You cannot! Miami and several other large cities want to close schools but have professional? I think not!

Arizona State was supposed to be played in Baton Rouge until that pesky Katrina bitch rolled through. But yeah, it puzzles me how we usually agree to the away game first. And VT ducked us for years until it fell absolutely perfect to 2007. That game ended up being the clincher for us to make the title game. IIRC, VT finished 3rd, or damn close in the BCS that year.
