You think this sucks? Slow it down a little.

Local Popeyes has had lines from the Drive-Thru all the way to the street the last few times I passed them. Possibly from days before.

Biden stated fast food workers have to sign a non-compete agreement

I cannot believe he said anything like that. His mind is slipping for sure. But, he ain't that far gone.

Like most people in this thread, I assumed this was bullshite, because it’s just such a nonsensical thing to say that I had to assume that no national politician would utter such idiotic words.

Alas, a search for the speech proved me wrong. This is the democratic nominee for president ladies and gentlemen
quote:

One big thing has changed. Two big things. One, you’re going to have a president who is a union guy and who cares about, understands the significance, and secondly, all the talk the last 20 years about driving down the rationale for unions, all of a sudden, this phrase everybody’s been woked, well guess what? The rest of the working class people in America have been awakened and realized, “Whoa, why because I work at a food restaurant did I have to sign an agreement that I will not compete, a non-compete agreement, that I will not go across town to another fast food restaurant and try to get a raise? What in the hell is that about? Why do the people have to sign that? Why is that? Why is it that when a majority of the corporations when you get a job make you sign you won’t ever tell anybody what your wage is that you work with or you can be penalized. Why is that/ They don’t want the woman or the African-American or woman or Hispanic working next to you to find out that you make more money than they make.” It’s all about driving down wages, driving down opportunity.

lol, when I was a teen, we had people changing to other fast food joints across the street, or right beside each other. All the time.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I'd take Biden at his word. It's not like he's someone who is known to blatantly lie on the campaign trail

It is like he is living a stream of dream land consciousness.

So, it could indeed be a reference to management, who DO have access to confidential info.

Honest question for the board. Is this commonplace?

I've never had to sign such an agreement at ANY of the places I've worked in my life. Now, I don't discuss my salary with others simply as a matter of respect and decorum. But being penalized for doing that? I've never heard of such. Then again. I've never worked a union job

It’s possible, but when you think of a “fast food worker”, that’s not the natural image that gets called to most people’s minds. If he’s talking about that type of job, he could have referenced any number of other industries where his audience would have more naturally conjured that type of dynamic in their minds. Healthcare, finance, technology, etc.; all of them would have lead the audience to understand the type of dynamic you are describing much more clearly. (Which by the way, if he was describing that sort of dynamic, then his very question of why the non-compete clauses exist would be both answered and utterly non-sensical to ask in the first place; they reason they would exist would be self evident)

But no, he chose fast food. In that context, it reads very clearly to me that he is referencing you average fast food worker, not your senior executive with confidential, proprietary info. Meaning, at the very best, Biden did an absolutely terrible job of communicating the thoughts in his head (something that seems to be happening more and more). More likely though, he was merely clumsily pandering (something that also seems to be happening more and more).
