I honestly wish these social media sites were restricted solely to your own friends group with no ability to share it with any other person than those in your friends group.

It went viral because she posted it on TikTok, which is full of high schoolers, the type of person who would threaten death over what they think is bad parenting.

No shite! When I took swimming lessons in the early 70's the first thing they did was throw us straight into the pool.

That's exactly how I learned to swim around 8 years old. My older cousin Jimmy tossed me in the deep end and told me to either swim or sink.
I'm not sure what I did could be misconstrued as swimming, but I managed to make it to the edge of the pool, pull myself out and tried to attack him-----and got thrown back into the pool for a second helping.

During a family trip when I was 4 years old (1971), I was tired of paddling around in the shallow end of the hotel pools and wanted to go deeper, but could not push myself (again--I was 4). I asked Mom to help me.
She walked me out on the diving board and straddled the board. My two oldest brothers, who both had early lifeguard training, were in the water close by. Mom lifted me and dropped me in the water. I surfaced, sputtered, and started dog paddling toward the side.
While I did this, the other women around the pool started yelling at her for having done that.
When I climbed out of the pool, I yelled out, "Do it again, Mommy! Do it again!"
That shut the women up and she dropped me in 3-4 more times before she made me jump in myself. I've been a strong swimmer ever since.
Thank god we didn't record everything in those days.

You know what’s worse besides the obvious of not learning how to swim? Letting a kid sit there all day overthinking it instead of just jumping in.
Never forget as a kid with my older cousins psyching myself out over a rope swing into a pond. You had to climb this pyramid of saw horses and plywood some kids had constructed and grab onto the rope, and it would literally carry you out to almost the middle of the pond. For a little kid it was intimidating as hell, and all I can remember is my cousins razzing me, basically calling me a pussy if I didn’t do it. Well, I was no pussy and so after enough of that I just did it, and after that, you couldn’t keep me off the damn thing.
Now, I did get swimmers ear from the water, but that’s besides the point. I wouldn’t trade those memories for the world. We had such a blast that day, and to be honest, I wish they would have made me sooner as I wasted a lot of valuable time overthinking that shite.
I’d imagine it’s kind of similar to this technique in learning to swim. It’s better for someone to throw you in and get it over with. Same for a the high diving board, or anything out of our comfort zone.

We have a pool and my kids learned how to swim that exact same way by age 2. It’s dumb not to teach them if you have a pool.

In Salem they used to bind up suspected witches and throw them into a pond. If they floated it was proof that they were witches, so they were killed. If they drowned it was proof they were innocent.

That is the best way to learn how to swim. My mom chased me off a diving board in the deep end and with a surge of adrenaline I made it safely to edge. I was swimming in deep end the rest of the day.

The worldstar comments are mostly supportive of the mother's teaching technique.

I don't remember, but family legend has it that my grandfather did this to me somewhere on the Coosa River when I was just shy of 2 years old.
I've been a decent swimmer as far back as I can remember and never remember learning to swim.

Knowing how to swim is racist you cis-gendered shite lord. This is 2020. That mom should have those kids learning to throw bricks through windows and supporting trannies.

They have been teaching babies to do this for years. It is a common practice. The swim school locally actually does it for free for 1 years and younger. It teaches them to do exactly what you saw in the video to float and not drown if they ever fell in. The general population is a bunch of morons never forget the average person is a complete idiot and the other half is dumber than that.
