Tactical/home defense Shotgun

I’m looking for a good home defense shotgun: Mossberg, Benelli, or Remington possibly. I have done some research on most of the popular shotguns but cannot find any that are in stock, presumably due to Corona and race wars. Does anyone on the board have any advice for buying something similar? I live on the Northshore and can make a little trip if necessary if y’all know someone I can go see. TIA

Find what you want online and have it shipped to a local dealer who will charge you a fee for the paperwork.

I did this two weeks ago....
I've had an 870 Express Magnum in the safe for years that I won at a DU banquet late 90s. I decided I wanted a tactical shotgun and ended up simply buying a tactical barrel for the 870 on line. It was delivered four days and $74 later to my door.
A shotgun has to have a minimum 26" overall length in LA to be legal. The tactical barrel is 18.5". The total length of my set up is 26.25" with the stock butt on it.
I've since ordered a tube extension that is scheduled to arrive on Saturday. This gun is now my back-up piece in my truck and lies under the back seat, perfectly legal to carry around.

Beretta 1301 tactical is the best bargain going IMO, followed by FN SLP.
The beretta can be had around $900 on a good sale and it's a fantastic rig. I have a 1301 comp and I love it. They have a short LOP and short barrels that IMO make them spectacular home defense shotguns. I'd argue that they are more reliable under stress than a pump, coming from a guy who has been shooting 870s his whole life.

Depends on price. Beretta 1301 is a super good value for what you get. Benelli M4 is great. I prefer mossberg for pumps myself (if your budget is lower). All depends on your budget.

The working of a pump action can cause an intruder to break and run. Sometimes that’s the best result. Killing someone is serious business.
For the OP, do you already have a shotgun or have any interest in hunting?

The average baw is less likely to suffer proficiency and accuracy errors with a simple pump action shotgun. The Remington 870 or the Mossberg 500 pump actions for example.
If you want to be "Tacticool"...
Remington 870 Express Tactical.
Example on Gunbroker.
Or a Mossberg 590.
One example on GunBroker.
Now, if you wanna really be cool...
Rock Island VRBP100
LINK
I'm following this one For Sale On GunBroker.
Keep in mind that a pump action shotgun is not a very good novice weapon. You have to train with it like any weapon. Alternatively, you might want to consider something like a pistol caliber carbine (PCC). The one I'm tracking right now is the Ruger PC Charger

All of those are great options and I would buy one if I could find it. I was hoping to find someone locally or a FFL dealer that I may have luck with that y’all may know. Cabela’s, Bass pro etc are all sold out. Or any other website that may have something like this in stock?

This is bad advice propagated by Hollywood and people who don’t have experience in this realm. The general rule of thumb is that if someone is ballsy enough to enter an occupied home, they already know it’s occupied and there’s a chance the owner is armed. Your racking the shotgun only removes your element of surprise and also negates one extra round that can be in the gun.

Also true but the home owner has no idea the intention of an intruder. Is it to kill, maim, rob, rape? Only way to find out is to sit there and wait. Better to have a plan to deal with the threat and respond accordingly, which I am not implying means certain death.

I just saw the Gunbroker site and the Mossberg at Cabela’s. I’ll look into those. I have never owned a shotgun so I would be a new to the game. I do deer hunt a few times a year and would like the option of using it for duck hunting etc. I do own a 357 S&W but that is the one Gun I am familiar with.

Local and big box type stores ain't got shite right now. Everyone's getting ready for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Find a local FFL and just start bidding on Gunbroker with a highly rated seller. Had successful transactions. Nothing wrong with that as an option. And nothing wrong with buying the right used weapon either if you do a little homework on the model, reliability, condition etc.

This looks right up my alley. Does anyone have one or familiar with this model?

Good advice, thanks....I almost pulled the trigger on a Rem 870 tactical synthetic on Cabela’s but read online how the ejector doesn’t work some of the time.

Mind sharing the link?
With all the ones I've found, for what they wanted, I might as well have bought a whole new gun.

Had a meth head turn inside out trying to get away when I worked the pump on my BPS. I guess I was a Hollywood actor and didn’t know it.
He was approaching the door. Not sure of intentions.

It's a good gun. Read the reviews and forums from users. I don't own one, but have shot several.
An instructor I train with has a Rock Island. It did that initially. Asked him Saturday about it and he said it runs fine now. Just had to cycle a couple of hundred shells through it.

I don't have first hand experience with them, but I have heard from several people that they are really good for the money. It's no Benelli, but it works and comes with some pretty cool features.

Curious because I've never owned one, why is a Tactical shotgun a better option than my full size shotgun with the plug out?
