Cool. You still don't have an Android version of iMessage and are still using SMS.

Know what's cooler? Not being a slave to imessage and locked into their system when you get a new phone. The way they have you jump through hoops in order to be "removed" from their system should be illegal.

I hate when people pretend like Apple has done nothing to push the smart phone industry forward. Sure, Google has beat them to the punch on some great features, but Apple was a pioneer in this industry.

I'm only forced to use sms when I'm messaging someone on iPhone, haven't used sms otherwise in just over a year.

Recent Apple user. It's more of "phones are starting to be so similar" response.

i don't think people are arguing that Apple hasn't been a bigger overall innovator in cell phones over the past 15 years, just that Apple is lagging way behind today. also, and this was a lot more common in the past than today but still exists, Apple fanboys pretend like the choice not to include already-developed tech in their phones is a better choice....then 3-4 gens later they adopt the tech.

for instance, remember when Apple refused to change the size because 3.5" was "perfect" and Apple knew better?

hell, just look in this very thread with the whole "iMessage" stuff. iMessage may have at one time been forward thinking but it's now old tech. however, apple fanboys IN THIS THREAD, tried a "gotcha" (and were totally incorrect about the tech of Google's messaging which is superior to iMessage). how long until Apple bends the knee and the fanboys start to pretend like they're innovating?

This has greatly diminished in the last 5 years. And iMessage was such a superior offering to any default messaging program on Android for so long that I give them a slight pass for not changing it too drastically. I do think this round of iOS updates to iMessage includes some badly needed features - such as the ability to directly respond to a particular message in a group chat.

I also think Apple has been far more conservative and not innovative since Jobs passed. This has been frustrating for Apple “fanboys”.

I’ve used both iOS and Android devices and as stated earlier, the truth is they are more similar than they are different. Each offers its pros and cons. iPhones are still undoubtedly in the premium lineup though.

The competition is good for the industry and has seen drastic performance and interface improvements in a relatively short period of time.

I hope they know what they are doing. On paper it seems like a no brainer type move that should have been done years ago.

However, in practice it has been a bust for several companies that have tried it...ask Microsoft.

Well. we'll know as early as 6 months is my guess when they start the rollout.
