My cousins and I decided to have a girl’s day out to celebrate one of the girls in the group birthday at Rips On The Lake. Initially, everything was going good. We were seated and ordered rounds of appetizers, then our entrees came out. Everything was subpar. Not one of the dishes had any seasoning. The pasta dishes, however, were bearable. In an effort not to complain, we simply asked for salt and pepper which was not originally on the table.

Unfortunately, two of the girls had fried items which seasoning can not be added to once it’s fried. The waiter then came out to ask how the food was. We told him the fried food was not seasoned well, and the fries were burnt. On top of that, it was cold...who wants cold fried food from a restaurant?

He said for the two fried platters, he would ask his manager what they could do to accommodate us. We thanked him for his consideration. He then returned and said, “The owner said that he is not accommodating anything. If y’all want something else, ya’ll NEED to pay for this food first, then we’ll gladly make y’all something else”. We were a little taken aback, because we never said that we were not paying for our food. My cousin asked to speak to the owner, and this is what happens when he comes out the door. Racial profiling at it’s best. To give you a picture of the background. We were the only group of black women on the balcony and socializing with everyone there.

I feel as though the owner missed a beat with this one. Instead of coming out attacking someone and assuming that we’re ghetto, loud, and common-whatever the stigmas of black people are, get to know a person 1st. Of the six educated black women at the table, two of them are NURSES on the front line helping others during this time. So before he judge others, get to know your customers. And as an human, shame one you for setting such a horrible example for your staff.
