I thought it was named for Harper Lee, author of the world famous critique on American racial injustice To Kill A Mockingbird.

Schools and street names don't bother me unless they've attained some historic significance.

I have no issue changing the names of stuff like this to some person from the community, and then in 100 years changing it to some other person in the community.

Cycling through these honorifics because "it's time" is different than doing it to dismantle the past, IMO.

I often wonder how many of the people demanding such name changes across the country have actually read a book about the Civil War, or biographies of the individuals in question?

Damn. The parish it self is only 45 percent black. Just shows you that all the whites are in private schools.

Time, patience and shite like this make the St. George school district more and more of a possibility every day. Keep it up counselor.

I mean, there's got to be somebody more deserving.
Like, just, you know, off the top of my head, I don't know...
Sidney Poitier, Reggie Jackson, Martin Luther King...
You know, those are just three names that come to mind.

Mr. Lanus

Give them St George and you can name it however you please.

Using “JD” is a strong signal you’re not admitted to practice.
