Telescope Innovations Files Game-Changing Provisional Patent To Purify Battery Materials
Standard's R&D friends at Telescope seem to have found a more efficient (cheaper) way to get to lithium carbonate.
"[filed a patent for] a disruptive new technique to purify lithium carbonate, a critical mineral building block for lithium ion battery production and particularly for low-cost LFP battery chemistries."
"The current provisional application describes a single-step process that produces battery-grade, >99.9% lithium carbonate from crude material of 20-95% purity. This technology can dramatically reduce the requirement for pre-processing of crude lithium brine feeds, which conventionally accounts for up to 80% of refinement costs."
"The Company aims to deploy its intellectual property through partnership and licensing models in the battery materials industry, leveraging its established and productive relationships with Standard Lithium Ltd., Natural Resources Canada, and Canada’s Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator, among others."
Maybe someone with a grasp of the chemistry can chime in, but this seems like a potential big deal?
Per DFS, opex per ton at Phase 1A:
Electrical Power and Infrastructure 950
Reagents and Consumables 2,880
Maintenance and External Services 610
Workforce 1,930
Insurance 340
Miscellaneous Costs 100
Total Operating Cost 6,810
Sustaining Capital Expenditures [6] 580
All-in Operating Cost 7,390
How much might the Reagents and Consumables be reduced by such a breakthrough?
Could help Phase 1A. Probably won't help SWA since it is slated to produce lithium hydroxide instead of lithium carbonate. Don't think we know the plan yet for East Tx.

The way I understand the relationship - Standard Lithium pays Telescope Innovations for Contract Research, but the IP belongs to Telescope Innovations and SLI will have only non-exclusive rights to the IP. I assume SLI will have to pay Telescope Innovations some fee for using the IP?
I hope SLI has some sort of advantage, given they paid for the contract research and Mintak and Robinson sit on the BOD of Telescope.

Took my loss and dumped it into nvda.
Seems like we have plenty of time to jump back into sli.

i think we get a bounce to the 1.70 range

NVDA -2.2%
Usually how it goes for me, too
BTW - I rode this turd from $0.70s to $12 and back to present, unfortunately adding to my position. Was up $60K at one point

There are a lot of headwinds in the lithium market now.
The concern that America is almost entirely dependent on China for lithium and lithium batteries is one of the few potential boosts at the moment. All of the auto manufacturers rushing to the EV door at the same time looks like a Three Stooges skit.

Haven't had a PR release since Jan 24.

Got ourselves a cliffhanger from the Magnolia Reporter today
"There may be another major energy company that will get involved in South Arkansas lithium. We salute them."
That's all it says

Q2 report for FY24 released today.
Hadn't had time to look, but I share Mintak's optimism:

quote:
"In 2023, the lithium sector has been under pressure, with lithium prices experiencing a significant decrease from the all-time highs seen in 2022, a situation compounded by the prevailing interest rate environment and other macroeconomic factors," says Robert Mintak, CEO and Director of Standard Lithium. "Despite the industry-wide market challenge, the long-term fundamentals for lithium continue to be strong, particularly for projects situated in geopolitically stable regions such as the United States, where policy support and other key strategic advantages are enabling for project differentiation.

Cash and equivalents and working capital of Ca$15.8 million and Ca$5.7 million, respectively, as of second fiscal quarter end, and in combination with the prudent and strategic use of our at-the-market offering program as a tool to fund any short term financing needs, are expected to sustain the Company through the 2024 fiscal year.
Getting low on funds................ If the plant wouldnt be built and profitable until 2026, where does the money come from to spand the 2 years.

Yea they’re gonna be banking on Ira grant money hard. But even that is going to be just a lifeline to buy them time. Hopefully it pays off.
