Cabrera - any chance?

He’ll probably go in the 3rd-5th; he was clearly upset online about losing the chance at Omaha since he’s never been.
Has anyone heard about the possibility of getting him back?

If anyone is drafted they are 99.99% gone, no one is wasting draft picks this draft

Would be great if he went undrafted, and that’s not even being selfish. He has first round potential, just has to show it.

Teams are not going to draft them without assurance they will sign this year

He will make a big jump in the pros once he has a decent hitting coach.

I think our hitting coach was doing work right before the cancellation. After the OU loss we were being patient and letting the ball travel.

I’ve seen him mocked as high as the first round to the Yankees. Doubt he stays, but would be a nice surprise if he does

I would have liked to see if Eddie Smith could have helped him out this year. His average was .345 when this season ended. When it was cancelled was right before the first weekend of SEC play. It would have been interesting to see if he could hit with an average like that against SEC pitching

Exactly. I like Smith and think he can get a lot out of these guys, especially DC. Hopefully most guys don’t want their LSU careers to end like this.
Of course we should be starting the season back up right fricking now and having the CWS the week before football starts but whatever.

He has not shown he can hit the curve ball!

He's not going in the 3nd through 5rd rounds. Outfielders are a dime a dozen and he doesn't stand out

Care to wager that he wont get drafted?

If he gets drafted he is 100% gone.

And the only reason that .01 percent won’t go is because the MLB team that drafted them lied to them about what they would pay.
Cabrera in a normal year would have been drafted in the top five rounds no doubt but if he gets to the 3rd he may start telling teams no unless they give him some outrageous above slot number.
I can see the same thing happening to Cole Henry. Cole still has two years of eligibility so his leverage is sky high and won’t leave for peanuts.

Does their age factor into this in any way? I understand they get their year back however, being that they get older does effect them? I have found articles on minor league players where they will mention that an individual player is 24 years old and he is in double A or he's 24 and he's in A ball and they will state they are old. All these players get the year back to play the year that was cancelled but them staying another year and getting that year older, will it hurt them once they get into pro ball?

Being a year older absolutely makes them less attractive prospects. You are correct.

So these players have to cut their losses and sign to get their foot in the door if they get a chance. I don't see next years draft getting any easier for them. There will probably be 20 rounds and the draft class will be twice the size because of the limited rounds this year. That's a big decision.

Which makes it doubly weird that MLB is pruning MILB teams at this time.
Even in a normal time, teams find later round picks that become contributors. And those guys need places to cut their teeth, like the short season clubs being taken out. And now with the next two or three drafts being bumper crops, there will be a lot of potential contributors not drafted at all.
And who knows what the Indy Ball situation will look like to give those guys an opportunity somewhere.
