When you as a white person counter Black Lives Matter with “all lives matter”, you are collectively GASLIGHTING the entire point of the movement. Stating that Black Lives Matter doesn’t mean your life or the lives of your loved ones means less. If you’re white, that was literally NEVER questioned. If you don’t like the phrase, that’s fine. You’re entitled to your opinion. However, I must remind you that every time you feel the need to counter Black Lives Matter with “all lives matter” that you are only drawing attention to your white bias. When you’re white and you say “all lives matter”, you’re being a nice racist.
And a nice racist is still a racist.
Learn better. Do better. Be better.
I encourage you to change your rallying cry to #BLACKLIVESMATTER because those are the lives that to this very day bear the majority of the risk of racially motivated violence. And until the day when that’s no longer the case, that’s why I will always say Black Lives Matter.
P.S. To anyone that feels the need to argue or “state your case”, I will not respond.
Instead I will only say this: if this makes you angry, uncomfortable, concerned, unsafe, etc...it’s likely because you’ve subconsciously recognized your own biases and racism. I wholeheartedly suggest you then do the necessary soul work to move past that. ???
