BRP discontinues production of all Evirude outboards. They were barely hanging on before and the WuFlu was the final nail in the coffin. They signed a deal with Mercury Marine to supply all of their production boat lines.

Could see that coming 2 miles away, in the swamp

there was a time when you either had a Johnson outboard or you had a paddle. There was no other viable option
what a shame

That’s a shame. The E-tec G2 was a legit good outboard.
I’m still running a ‘92 Johnson Fast Strike 175. It’s due for a rebuild. But that motor has been solid.

Well, frick. What about current standing warranties? Parts?
frick this bullshite!
Eta: nevermind, just read it. They will continue to support parts and service. Bet its gonna be shite inventory and techs though
Etaa: that article reads like a blockbuster card of buzzword bingo. frick the customers, frick the employees. We've rung this out for all it's worth and we're going on to ring something else out

Might be able to pick up a deal on one.

The market just doesn’t want 2-strokes anymore.
Posted on 5/27/20 at 6:35 pm to PillageUrVillage
I disagree. The engine companies dont want them, they were too cheap and cut into the 4 stroke market.
Posted on 5/27/20 at 6:40 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
They’ve definitely pushed it that way with marketing.

I have two older Johnsons. Both have been bulletproof. I keep them as back up now.

I this real life?? I am still rocking a 1989 evinrude my family got when I was 9 years old. It covers the launch with blue smoke, everyone looks at me like I just unleashed a ancient dragon. I like that

I think it has to do with EPA-friendly engines

The optimax and etech have been CARB 3 star forever, when the 4 strokes were still 2 star.
The reason the market flipped was marketing. Once they sank development costs into the 4 strokes it didnt make sense to carry 2 product lines so the old one had to go

Just curious, about what year did the Johnson/Evinrude motors go to shite? There seems to be quite a bit of 30+ year old ones still out there rolling. More so than Yamaha, Mercury, etc.
Posted on 5/27/20 at 7:37 pm to PillageUrVillage
Lol, I’m still running my 95 Johnson fast strike 150 on my ole stratos.

Whenever the FICHT motor came out I’d guess. I’ve been a Merc dude my whole life, except one Johnson Stinger that was a pain in my arse, so I don’t really know. The last 20 years or so you just don’t see many down here and baws run what they like. Evil rude hasn’t been in that game

If I had to guess that was before the foreign motors caught on big and the mercury's just sucked. My dad always talks about how folks thought he was crazy for buying a yamaha in the 80s.

I have no idea how old my Johnson is, it's 15hp 2 stroke, white. I just know it's pull start only and apparently according to 2 different mechanics too old for an electric start to be put on.

1972 Evinrude two-stroke, still running strong. Had it serviced by T-Mike in Breaux Bridge last summer.
