Do what you want no matter what age you are. If you want to stay home do it, if you want to wear a mask do it, if you don't want to wear a mask than don't. Gotta get out of this mindset of telling people what they can or can't do.

Is reading hard, or are we all just being emotional? Good to see all the Karens in here.

It's clearly time to quit trying to talk sense into these folks. If I didn't know better, I would swear this clown is my FIL. Doesn't matter how many times you try to explain to them how transmission of this virus works, they don't get it. They think if they don't feel sick, they aren't sick. It's not terribly unlike when people get too old to drive.....it's different from everything they've ever known, so they won't stand for someone changing their routine.

I was responding to Vanilla who was in essence, telling us what to do. Truthfully, I wear a mask most of the time, except when I have trouble breathing with it on (respiratory issues). I am smart about what I am doing, and yes, I will go the hospital if I get sick. Yes, I can be infectious but how long are we going to play the game of "what if"? I am very considerate of those around me; I stay home if I am sick, and I am extra careful if others are sick. But damn it if I am going to live my life in fear and allow the herd to tell me what to do. I still do not know anyone with COVID, nor do I know anyone who does.

It's my problem = it's my responsibility and I have no one to blame.

We were just going by what you said. I actually read above my grade level TYVM.

ETA: Oh, now I see you've crawfished to clarify.

That's good and I understand. And all the more reason for you to do so.

There's my FIL. Listen. If you go inside a public place, wear a damn mask. Seriously. It's not difficult. For you. For everyone around you.

I stay home if I am sick, and I am extra careful if others are sick.

And yet (here we go again), if you DON'T HAVE SYMPTOMS, how will you know in either case? You will have infected others before you ever figure it out, assuming you ever do. You may not.

But damn it if I am going to live my life in fear and allow the herd to tell me what to do.

Wear a mask for a couple of months in public. Is that really degrading the entirety of the rest of your life? You don't have to be fearful to be smart.

Fun fact. Strangers are carriers, too.

Seriously, I do hope you stay well.

Nor surprisingly you got a few down-votes. Don't you think the old folks may have to go to the drug store occasionally - or shop for milk, bread, etc. occasionally.

Wearing a mask is more to protect the other folks. Are you seriously the kind of person that cares nothing at all about the other folks who reside in this state (or planet) ??

Gee whiz, man. Get a MAGA mask or a Trump mask - then you can alienate 40% of the citizenry while doing your part to protect 100% of them.

It’s like Planet of the Apes.......hoards of complete imbeciles walking around with this arrogant ignorance believing they know more than any expert on any topic.

And, not shockingly, most gravitate to a certain political figure and buy what that one sells hook, line and sinker.

Dialog with them is truly futile.

Sweden said Eff it and here are the results thus far...

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Sweden has an estimated 328.6 cases and 39.3 deaths per 100,000 of the population. Norway has 156.4 cases and just 4.4 deaths respectively. Denmark and Finland have similarly low figures. Those same statistics still indicate that Sweden has a lower number of deaths per capita than Italy, Spain and the U.K., all countries that have enacted stringent lockdowns.

Quarantine is when you restrict the movement of sick people.

Tyranny is when you restrict the movement of healthy people.

Well, I’m well passed that mark & at risk, but I think I can make my own decisions. Thanks for your unsolicited opinion.

What an incorrect statement.

He's wrong about some masks.

He's not wrong about bra cups, old t shirts, do rags, and other flimsy pieces of cotton that most people wearing a mask are wearing now.

Well, let’s be clear......I’m a Trump voter. Have been from the beginning and will be again. But I agree that he is the main problem with why people aren’t taking this seriously. He has done himself no favors lately with how he’s done a 180 on the seriousness of the virus. I truly believe that when it became clear that people weren’t dropping like flies and unemployment was skyrocketing, undoing all of the good economic work that he’s done, he saw the dems’ line of attack and has worked swiftly to sell that narrative that this is a political hack job aimed at ousting him in November. And his voters are buying it, as you point out.

People get all bent out of shape because they’re being asked to distance, wear masks, etc because TYRANNY! They claim they could have done all of this mitigation without the government telling them to, yet they can’t even figure out six feet or directional arrows. That much has been blatantly obvious. Consider how many people we have learned don’t even wash their hands on a regular basis. It’s simply amazing that human civilization has gotten as far as it has.

“I saw someone wearing a mask wrong, therefore masks don’t work”

It’s this kind of idiotic logic that gets so old.

Masks work on a population level. They don’t prevent every infection. They likely prevent a small percent of infections, therefore having an effect when looking at the spread of the virus among large populations of millions of people.

Surgeons wear masks in surgery to control respiratory secretions.
Doctors wear N95 masks when treating tuberculosis patients (much more infectious than COVID)

The principle and physics of a mask is well established.

If you don’t want to wear one then don’t. Just stop making yourself look like an idiot by saying they don’t work.
