So you think it's only supply and demand dictating the prices? Nothing to do with with anything else? Oil industry is probably the same way huh?

No, I’m not a simpleton.

Product cost, regulation, elasticity, and pricing objective are also factors

I honestly think it's due to all the restaurants being closed, who normally ordered 30-40% of their sales, are closed, so they are making up their lost profit from sales by jacking up the normal consumer prices. Once restaurants are fully 100% open, the price will go back to normal.

The issue with meat unavailability is processing. Not shortage, not transportation - the processing folks were getting sick and they have shut down several plants. It is what it is.

Local farmers and slaughter houses need to do a better job at selling themselves. Most people think meat can only be purchased at Wal-Mart or other big chain stores.

If you think that regulation is just a "factor", you're a simpleton.

maybe, just maybe, most consumers aren’t interested in buying beef in bulk- not a whole, half, third, or even quarter cow. Telling the beef producer or local butcher shop to market themselves better isn’t addressing the real issue.
The real issue is we have only four major processors controlling the market, two of which are foreign owned, and no accurate labeling in beef. That’s why domestic producers are getting the short end.

Your post is as foolish as the OP’s

I listened to the Joe Rogan podcast where he had Joel Salatin in and while I disagree with some of the stuff Salatin was going on about, is it true that a person can’t buy directly from a farmer unless it goes through an FDA approved slaughter house?

Seems like someone could absorb enough market share to offset transition expense to more automated processing if processing was the one and only barrier.

I’m also curious how much supply chain is geared to deliver/package meat to grocery stores versus restaurants and schools. This may artificially tighten the supply of meat while increasing the demand at stores

Correct, even if it is a one man show he still has to be FDA approved and inspected.

You can get around it by doing it yourself.
