watched the first 2 rivals video clips...If i counted correctly, the first clip had him run 10 of 13 plays and the 2nd clip was aroung 13 of 17 running. The 7 total throws out of 30 were average throws. He looked like Michael Vick and Herb Tyler who were decidely run-first guys, yet still very effective college QB's.

He seems to be an amazing running QB. The tuck-n-run style worries me a bit in terms of his prep for the reality of the SEC. It will be interesting to see his Sr year.

i agree.

you don't see many high school qb's throw that much as underclassmen though. so we will see. either way we have a great athlete coming in.

He has been working with a quarterback coach, Jeff Blake, to try and improve on his passing game. He is working towards becoming known for his arm and passing abilities rather than his legs and athletic abilities. His senior season should be interesting.

When you can run like that at the high school level, why would you pass?

I'm not too concerned. I think he has a strong arm and with his threat as a runner I expect receivers will be open.

Amen. I see just as many posts downing this guy as a QB than praising him. LSU is going to have Vick like talent at the QB spot. The guy seems like a great leader as well. Barring injury, this guy will lead us to a NC.

From what I saw of his rather porous offensive line, he had little choice. Also, he may or may not have good receivers to throw to; without a little time, nobody seemed to have time to get open.

He is a remarkable athlete, and will have a significant impact on LSU football. His HS coaches need to find a way to give him a chance to develop pocket skills some kind of way. The best SEC QB's are usually the ones that come from a HS system that aids them to develop pocket skills and who have enough time to learn to look off receivers and to develop field vision and decision making. His risk is that he is such a dominant part of his HS's ability to win, that his coaches will fail to develop him properly for the next level. Either way, he is an incredible athlete, but to win in the SEC, that usually is insufficient.

Does Cypress have any blue chip olineman. maybe that is why they have to use him as a running weapon. They cant protect him. If you have 2 good runners on 1 team (Shep & Lipscomb) then either you have a running offense or you cant pass the ball. I would be surprise if none of those olineman are being highly recruited.

i am going to call bullshite. 98% of this site is thrilled to get such a great kid and player. their has some been some questioning of his ability to play qb on the sec level, but i think its founded. his highlight reels are amazing, but have minimal throwing. his coach wont/doesnt give a shite about developing his passing as long as they are winning with him running. i think we ALL want shep to be great, but to act like some critiquing a part of his game is "downing" him-- its inaccurate

If he's going to be a future LSU superstar. might as well get his name right. I've seen Shephard, Sheperd, Shepherd, Sheppard, and Shepperd on this site of late. Maybe everyone should just stick to "Shep"

Its Bundy and his bunch. Enough said. I see a JR redux coming. Bundy can't help it. That is what he is.

Of course, under the pressure of his true nature being revealed, he did say Herb Tyler was one of his favorites.
