90% of PI lawsuits are frivolous garbage
no
they may be over-valued, but they're not frivolous
y'all need to get the talking points right if you ever want to really make change to the system

Have fun, thank you for your service, and your $12.99 a day check is in the mail!
My company pays my salary in full for all jury duty days.

Apparently hasn't occurred to many that lowering the jury threshold means way more jury trials -means way more jurors needed.
if there's more than a 20% increase I will be shocked. Just means marginal cases will settle for way less than $50k (since plaintiff's attorneys won't be able to count on the "guaranteed" $50k from their bought and paid for black-robed ATM)

No butthurt here. I'm glad the law is potentially changing. I realize that's a threat to your business model, so good luck!

Dude! He’s a defense attorney though and sees tons of cases with the only treatment being some shady chiropractor! He got his Harvard Law Degree and sits in his ivory tower at Geico pissing on these scum bags

Now why would anyone oppose LA just implementing the same rules as the vast majority of states?
what the people who want "tort reform" need to do is an incremental approach. their issue is trying to go 100% or nothing
start with a 2-year prescriptive period. pretty much everyone agrees with this so it should be easy to pass
then we can see if rates go down in a few years. if they do, move onto the next policy

Not for 4 more years at least but keep hoping.

All I know is those fricking idiots at the Legislature better align parish and city courts with any jurisdictional changes, otherwise, you will see a flood of cases into those courts which range from $20k to up to $50k of jurisdiction with no jury trials.

This.
Insurance companies are mostly horrible about paying even legit claims, but the plaintiff bar acting all high and noble is always hilarious

there is a theoretical procedural argument that could be used to avoid this, but it would destroy city courts
if they want a compromise, make city court jurisdictions $30k max across the board and drop the jury threshold the same. $30k is double the min policy. no way should the jury threshold be lower than the min policy, imho.

LOL, who has more of an interest at stake here? I would also lose work if these measures pass. You're just worried about your business model.

You know what's wild and ridiculous? A $100k demand letter for a fender bender where no one went to a hospital until three weeks later after meeting with a lawyer.

Is this a disaster in all of the other states where the threshold is low? Or, is this simply more scrambling and bullshite from PI attorneys?

i did PI for a long time and i hated fricking conferences and CLEs with PI guys. they act like fricking jesus while most are super shady with their pre-negotiated chiro rates. luckily the LASC kind of started making this information discoverable
like with most things in law, SWLA is somewhat insulated but as you go east, it gets exponentially worse. true of the a-hole defense attorney as well as the savior PI guy

A lot of states don't have a jury threshold. I guess all they do is sit in jury duty

Everyone all day, everyday. People just dial up the PI attorney’s numbers from the hundreds of billboards all along the interstates there. Wait...
