i did PI for a long time and i hated fricking conferences and CLEs with PI guys. they act like fricking jesus while most sort of commit fraud with their pre-negotiated chiro rates. luckily the LASC kind of started making this information discoverable

like with most things in law, SWLA is somewhat insulated but as you go east, it gets exponentially worse. true of the a-hole defense attorney as well as the savior PI guy

Agreed.

if they want a compromise, make city court jurisdictions $30k max across the board and drop the jury threshold the same. $30k is double the min policy. no way should the jury threshold be lower than the min policy, imho

I like this idea, but minimum per person is $15k. They would raise minimum per person $20k and set the cap/threshold there.

Have fun, thank you for your service, and your $12.99 a day check is in the mail!

I haven't read the bill, but I'm assuming it would put us in line with the Texas and Floridas of the world on the threshold. So I'm going to call BS on this Mr. Bart.

i remember when i first heard about that case i was like, "wait, you mean PI attorneys had a pre-negotiated rate but submitted the full rate as their medical billing? and the chiropractor's office signed a sworn statement confirming these are the proper rates?"

Insurance companies are mostly horrible about paying even legit claims, but the plaintiff bar acting all high and noble is always hilarious

There are bad actors on both sides.

Unfortunately, only one side gets to present itself as the "good guys" relative to the insurance companies.

Could you imagine State Farm or Progressive running ads directly shitting on the plaintiff's bar?

He got 14k and his scum attorney got got 8k. You just don't understand the "extreme" and "excruciating" and "severe " problems he experienced due to your "outrageous" negligence.

Absolutely.

And SFP is completely correct. Reforms need to be phased in gradually to see if any of it will even work. Stakeholders won’t even commit to a rate decrease is 100% of the measures go into effect.

I got jury duty once and it happened shortly after I got laid off at 24 years old. Sucked arse and I got paid close to nothing.

Right now some jury duty would be sweet. Sit my arse and read some books while they interview jurors. Meanwhile my employer giving me my full pay and I would still accrue vacation time.

That's exactly what they did (and are still doing) - at least a few firms (come of the other larger plaintiffs' shops hate it just as much).

Frankly., future medicals has become the new cash cow since generals can only go so high.

i'm about to go make a grocery run but i'll give my PI spiel

running a PI mill is super easy on the legal work and more about the office management (hence why E Eric got in trouble). doing complicated PI is much heavier on the legal work, especially in litigation, which is why most PI mills have a dedicated litigation firm they go joint with

PI has consolidated itself to the extremes due to the mega advertising. it's fricked itself so much that PI advertising is the clear-cut #1 keyword for Google ads/searches. i can only imagine how badly they've warped the billboard market

PI is a huge arbitrage opportunity for the effort. if PI attorneys had to bill a reasonable rate hourly, they would make exponentially less money. it's the golden goose. the problem is that the PI mills have killed the golden goose for everyone. small firms can't compete b/c the barrier to entry is so high and they've turned off the general population with their bullshite in and outside of casework.

so, PI deserves it b/c they obviously can't regulate themselves in any sort of internal way

$0 in damage to either vehicle. It literally put a small scratch on the plastic bumper of the wife's car. If that caused that toothless frick 15k of pain and suffering he's the most fragile vag on the planet
