There is absolutely no guarantee of that ever happening. So are we to just remain like this for eternity?

Furthermore, even if it DOES happen how the hell do you think people will be convinced to take it?? So many don't take a flu shot as is their right. I take the flu shot as it's wear a mask from October 1 = April 30 if I don't take the shot. If they "force" me to take this one, I'm highly considering resigning.

What about the 76,000 people estimated to have killed themselves during the quarantine? To quote one of the greatest animated films of all time.

So utterly stupid . When a disease has spread to tens of millions of people, contact tracing is quite literally pointless. You contact trace at the BEGINNING. Just stop with the FB sloganeering.

Masks, testing, contact tracing, and ultimately a vaccine, are all proven public health tools. Let's not be stupid and not use them.

Contact tracing. Did your mother ever read this book to you when you were a kid?

Now imagine that mouse being a power hungry government instead.

It still amazes me how some people are so quick to give up their rights and freedoms.

Do you not understand that until a vaccine is produced and distributed, this is the only way we can safely open up? What do you think will happen if we don't take these precautions?

The death toll in the US has been .00002% of the population. The worldwide morbidity rate has been just over double that of the flu.

You might as well be terrified of going outside because you think a meteor will hit you.

We survived the Spanish Flu for one reason: our immune systems kicked in. Many, MANY died from it but that's the way of nature without making a vaccine.

We won't have a widely available vaccine before winter comes back around, it's simple logistics. Even if we do then we face the problem of constantly chasing down new vaccines for the new strains it mutates into. Congrats on yet another vaccine every year?

Our best option is to work on herd immunity now while trying to manage deaths among those most vulnerable while the weather is good and we have the opportunity. Waiting until another wave hits during a possibly bad winter is a mind-numbingly worse idea than going out and about without masks.

Sure, no issue

contract tracing a part of that

If say 0.5% of ppl infected.
Let's say they do great random testing catch 1 in 10 cases.

1 in 2000 people who are out in society would trigger notifications each week.

How many ppl in Walmart with you?
Few hundred?

Most people would be notified of potential contact on a weekly basis.

It would just stoke panic.

We can safely open up because while extremely contagious, this virus isn't dangerous to the overwhelming majority of people. Those who are vulnerable know who they are and can take their own measures to avoid exposure. Wearing a mask really won't help to stop people from picking it up. Contract tracing is a waste of time and a violation of constitutional rights to travel and to privacy.

This country was founded on this thing called freedom. That freedom was taken from us through lies. It’s time we take our freedom back.

And if you’re scared to get sick you are free to stay at home. No one is forcing you to go out.

For idiots like OP and certain politicians, scaring people is the entire point.

Much more easy to control that way.

Do any other coronaviruses have vaccines? Nope!

Several animal coronaviruses are vaccinated against successfully. I bet every chicken you’ve ever eaten received an IBV vaccine.

There are some animal coronaviruses that we have tried to produce vaccines for and failed. It mostly depends on the particular species of coronaviridae. Cross your fingers we can make it work for this one.
