I'm one who agrees Ozark is trending in a meh direction. But Tom Pelphrey was great as Ben. In fact they turned the show over to Ben for two or three episodes because they knew he was that good. He is a much better actor in terms of the craft than Jason Bateman.

It's just too much, too fast, and too often. Every single episode is a new problem that is going to kill everyone. They always fix it and wrap it up in a nice little bow every episode. Rinse and repeat.

Its a good show. It has a great premise, but some of the episodes drag. The lawyer chick was aggravating with her "my client" bullshite, and trying to keep it from her daughter while she was the sleeziest one on the show.
Wendy sucks. Her brother and his whole character sucked even worse.
The writing is good as long as they stay focused on the story.
I sometimes tire of the crisis after crisis aspect of the show. At times it seems contrived.
The riverboat Casino was lame.

Personally I feel this way about the whole show. It's a fine show but not worthy of the level of praise it gets IMO.

I was caught up before Season 3 was released, but somehow I completely avoided Season 3 over the Year of COVID. Maybe I was a little tired of it, I'm not sure. But I watched Season 3 over the last couple of weeks, and I liked it—and I'm looking forward to the last season.
Darlene is super creepy as usual and I think we're all hoping that she meets her deserved end in Season 4. But I don't buy the Darlene and Wyatt thing at all.
Frank Jr. was a good creepy character, and his fate was gross but satisfying I guess. Will he make an appearance in Season 4? Ben was aggravating and it became obvious where that storyline had to go. I thought it was a good addition to the story because it showed again how ruthless the Byrdes really are.

The redneck girl that cusses a lot put me off from the beginning. Maybe people talk like that, but I didn't believe her.
I'm not a prude in general where it makes sense. Profanity seems to "fit" with the Sopranos, for example.
When it seems gratuitous for no reason other than to add "adult edge" or whatever it is off putting to me.
I quit on season 3.

I’ve changed my mind in the months since. Tom was over the top. He didn’t get nominated for shite. He’s a soap opera star.
