To him it's a badge of honor. He'll play the martyr angle for years. JBE did him a big favor. I'm not defending or criticizing Spell, but you do realize we have allowed 50 dictators to root themselves in the U.S., right? Do you honestly think JBE will wait on the legislature the next time he wants something done his way?

I thought conservatives despised today's victimhood mentality?

Or maybe you're just a hypocrit and a whiner.

I think he was only arrested based on the assault charge involving the bus.

So citing a law with a law to counter a right?

So many are so fearful.

BTW, his congregants don't have to attend if service is offered.

I know.
Somehow I will freely watch my churches services in a few hours. And in a month or so I will be back attending my churches services every Sunday.
Victim skyscreamers are the worst.

How far do y'all think he takes this case?

I hope, for everyone's sake, that he takes it to the USSC. This is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment and can't be tolerated. It doesn't matter how selfish or stupid he is.

Thousands of churches are holding services online without a problem.

You can't have a true Christian service online anymore than you can have democratic participation online.

Nearly every single one of these Churches has fundamentally lost the notion of the will of God and the idea that death and resurrection is preferable to life on this planet.

If the last couple hundred years of SCOTUS jurisprudence has taught us anything, it's that no right is absolute.

quote:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

Now, let's say that my sincerely held religious belief requires human sacrifice. Is it your legal opinion that I would be able to engage in human sacrifice without legal consequence? If the state would endeavor to stop me from practicing ritual human sacrifice, would that not be abridging my right to the free exercise of my religious beliefs, as enshrined in the First Amendment?

The First Amendment was designed to stop the in-fighting of Christian Religious denominations, later on it was used by more liberal groups to protect non-Christian world religions by the anti-Christians out of spite.

You are right every amendment has a historical context that can not be read as absolute.

No - he simply lacks the genes that control human decency.

An earlier poster said Spell has the right to hold services and congregants have the right to attend. But the rest of us obviously don't have the right to prevent this dude and his sycophants from walking through the supermarket or pharmacy while we're present.

"Pastor" Spell has done more to tarnish the image of Christianity than anyone since Jimmy Swaggart.

For some reason the word "sociopath" keeps coming to mind.
