The Central pastor who defied the coronavirus stay-at-home order was placed on house arrest Saturday morning after refusing to tell a state district judge whether he would continue to hold religious services. Judge Fred Crifasi of the 19th Judicial District Court put Rev. Tony Spell, the controversial pastor of Life Tabernacle Church, on house arrest at 9 a.m.

We are becoming the Soviet Union. I never thought I’d see the day when Christianity was outlawed in the United States if America, but here we are. Sad day .

Who said it was outlawed?

Every other denomination has figured out a way to worship during the isolation, so why can't this dumbass do the same?

Christianity isn’t outlawed. Thousands of churches are holding services online without a problem.

It’s this attention seeking doofus that is doing every single thing he can to make a national name for himself. Every single thing he is doing in his own name, not in the Lord’s name. Watch his stupid stimulus donation video as exhibit one.

How far do y'all think he takes this case? What's the appeals path here once any trial is done? State district judge, so it goes to the LASC then to the USSC, right?

Does he just quit when he reaches a point where it's no longer bringing in cash?

ETA: Forgot the LA Court of Appeals before the LASC, didn't I?

Also, can he get a federal injunction against the state courts?

Wether you agree with him or not is irrelevant. He has a right and the governing infringed on that right .
It amazes me how many of you bash him for doing what he wants . Obviously his “flock “ wanted to be there and it’s their right . We can disagree with the attendance but agree that it should be his and his members decision .

I wonder what the radius on that thing is. His church is basically 100 yards away from his house.

There’s a video on Central News’ Facebook account of some of the details and the actual “event” of him receiving the monitor. I think they told him he could go on his porch but that was it.

Case gets dropped.
This simply about controlling him and his church.

They should have service tomorrow without a preacher or let him preach from home.

I bet they would take his internet from him the next week if he did that

Nope.

"A community has the right to protect itself against an epidimic of disease which threatens the safety of its members."
Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905).

"The family itself is not beyond regulation in the public interest, as against a claim of religious liberty. And neither the rights of religion nor the rights of parenthood are beyond limitation…. The right to practice religion freely does not include the right to expose the community or the child to communicable disease or the latter to ill-health or death...."
Prince v. Massachusetts, 321 U.S. 158 (1944)
