"Things will never go back to normal"

I have been seeing on more than one occasion people ranging from Facebook warrior Karen's to wannabe Doctors who are RN's to world leaders who are saying that things will NEVER go back to normal. To me, this just seems ridiculous. Eventually, people will be sick and tired of this and begin just ignoring it and go back to their normal lives or it will just fade away just like the ice bucket challenge, planking, is the dress blue or gold, impeachment trials and the list of idiotic internet fads or political agendas at the time.
This social distancing, economic shut down, people in panic will fade away as soon as something new takes its place like a natural disaster, or hmmm I don't know an election. I am already starting to see on a personal level companies telling their employees that enough is enough, time to come back to the office. Just my opinion.

I wonder what kind of damage this is doing to the average American psyche. I know plenty of people
Who are basically terrified to go outside (which is insane). I’m sure plenty of people will continue to be scared to go out for a long time. Hopefully they’re the minority so businesses can bounce back ASAP

Agreed.
Believe a lot of this has to do with being the first “pandemic” with social media.

We will have a new normal, does anyone question that? I see restaurants doing reservations only, so will other businesses, only come in when called, leave when finished, etc.

For some people it will get back to normal. For others their lives will have to take a different direction.

Good luck with that at a local deli or fast food.

They should’ve never not been normal. But we live in fear of any and everything in this softer world we live in now.

This is the desired agenda for some people. You think this is just about fighting a pandemic? If you don't see that you aren't paying attention.

Whenever we've had a mass event, things have changed and no we didn't go back to "normal". If you think things won't change from this, I'm not really sure what to tell you.
Does that mean we'll continue doing everything we're doing right now? No. But there will definitely be lasting changes from this.

It was blue and black.

No. Because this is America, the greatest country in the history of the planet. Our freedom, combined with the beauty of capitalism, will ensure things go back to normal. You see if those restaurants and business do that they will fail because someone can and will open restaurants and businesses that DONT do that.

What is normal anyway? Seems it's a pretty fluid standard. Things that were normal in society 10 years ago aren't anymore. Things change, people change, norms change.

Restaurants won’t survive in that model unless costs go way up.
And you assume large segments of the population will follow the “etiquette” / hygiene rules of this new society? Laughable

Just imagine the ignorance it takes to compare a global pandemic to these things.

The discussion around normal is childish to me. If you think about what it means to be normal. Do you think people in say...1990 would think 2000 was very normal behavior? Let alone 2010 or 2020. Just the availability of information and going to the Internet for everything vs asking someone and/or looking around locally.
I'm sure we would look very anti-social seen through the eyes of 1990.
But yeah, I'm with you. We're one election season away from not GAF about this thing anymore.

I’m pretty much back to the “old normal” now as much as business and school closures allow.
Most others will go back to the old ways shortly. Even businesses like restaurants will use whatever configuration generates the most money per square foot.
But it’s like people who think it’s too early to crawl out of the caves - you can stay in your cave. You can keep wearing a mask in your car. You can keep standing 6 feet away from people.
After the Great Depression, even with FDIC guarantees, some people never trusted banks with their money again and kept all their cash at home. Fear and illogical thinking will drive behavioral changes.

"normal" is continuously changing

Just want to remind everyone that nearly 20 years after 9/11, we still have to wait in exceedingly long lines at airports just to remove our shoes and get felt up by a rude, federally paid TSA worker who is on par, professionally, with your average fry cook at Burger King.
Things may get closer to normal, but you can bet there will be some permanent damage implemented after this. Freedoms, once taken away, are never fully returned.

The only people that shouldn't go back to "normal" are the idiots who put themself in a compromised position to be severely impacted or die from this virus. I'm not talking about the elderly or people with legitimate health issues either. I'm talking about the lazy fricks whose health issues are self-inflicted. The 400 lb 40 year old with diabetes. The smokers with compromised respiratory systems.
If those people go back to "normal", then they didn't learn shite from this.
But if anyone thinks things will be "normal" in the sense that we will go back to life as we knew it before this happened (as if it didn't happen), they are outside of their fricking minds. People have been laid off. No one really knows what impact this has had on the economy.
"Normal" will not be what it was before this happened. It will be similar, but lives have been changed.

The government is absolutely going to use this event as a springboard for more permanent power.
It is up to us to tell them to get fricked or we can take it up the arse. And judging by Reddit and the OT authoritarian's response, they are willingly bending over.
