re: How do you feel about Mississippi's "Confederate Heritage Month"?

I didn't say it hurt me. The Confederacy is just an embarrassing heritage to celebrate, all things considered.
I'm trying to imagine having a family member who fought for the Confederate forces. I'm sure I have a few. Would I be proud? No. Would I go out of my way to celebrate them? Of course not.
Then again, I also recognize that it was a different world in the mid-1800s, and I could have just as easily found myself fighting alongside Confederate forces because I wouldn't know any better. I try to remember that, but I still can't find it in me to "celebrate" it.
Of course, that's just my opinion.

So I guess Cinco de Mayo being celebrated in Texas really chaps your arse, if you're being fair with your liberalism.

No blacks haven’t had 160 years to get over it .Thats preposterous.

Not my state so don't care much.
My only suggestion would be a Civil War history month.

But, recall we're celebrating transgenderism and abortion, 24/7 in Hollywood and other places. I assume that doesn't embarrass you? Maybe I'm misreading you.
I don't know if you're misreading me or not.
Comparing Transgenderism to the Confederacy would about as false as a false equivalency can be, and it doesn't embarrass me. The transgender movement doesn't have the baggage that the Confederacy does.
Also, and this should go without saying, but I think you'll find more people celebrating abortion rights than you will celebrating the actual procedure.

Well if it causes butt hurt then it’s entertaining

The war was fought primarily over slavery. I'm sure there were a hundred other reasons for it, but that one invalidates the rest of them. For me.

I think that it is great.

History is Historic and should be recognized.

Deo vindice reminds me of fallout's "ad victorium". Latin sayings are cool.

Who cares what they think.

Since New Orleans took down the statues, I haven’t spent a dime there.
I wish Mississippi had chosen a non-wuflu month to declare this. I would really enjoy driving with the family through Orleans Parish on I-10 to spend my time and money in heritage loving Mississippi for four weekends!
Down with covid. Long live Mississippi. Not a dime for Orleans!

You think the average Mississippian fought to own a slave? The average Mississippian fought to defend the land he grew up on and lived. My state was burned to the ground and utterly destroyed by the Union army, when 90% of the soldiers who fought had zero slaves.
The self-loathing from you and other white liberals is absolutely disturbing. Africans and Muslims sold blacks into slavery, but we don't have entire university departments devoted to demonizing these two groups do we?

Ah, but there's the rub. Virtually every modern celebration of the Confederacy is limited to the military spirit, elan, "Muh heritage", etc. The number of folks celebrating slavery or the social/economic retardation the Confederacy suffered because of the overreliance on cotton and the slave labor to produce it is statistically zero.
The number of folks out there publicly celebrating their abortions is definitely not statistically zero.
If you want to be embarrassed about something with which you don't agree and don't participate in, I ask you to consider if such misguided emotional responses aren't responsible for a lot of unearned white guilt.
Just a thought...

This would make a lot more sense, and would be much more inclusive. Although I doubt it would paint the Confederacy as a sympathetic group, which would cause an outcry from people who think it's a heritage worth celebrating.

Sounds like you need to move your liberal arse to the NE then.

Frankly, any month you’re not celebrating people who declared war on our country is a missed opportunity. As citizens of the United States, we should look for more ways to honor and applaud those who fought against the United States.
