Why do people continue to sleep on Kentucky Football?

I'm not saying UK is going to win the East, but it is apparent that Stoops has done a great job. Why are other fans so quick to discount their recent success?

Stoops is a great coach.
But it's Kentucky.
In the SEC.
In football.

Most fans don’t consider going to the Belk bowl a success.

Because most discussion centers around who is going to win the division. Nobody realistically likes to discuss the battle for 3-5

Because your best team ever got demolished by a 5-7 Vols team.

Nobody is discounting them - Stoops has done a great job.
However, if by discounting them you mean thinking they are a very solid 8-4/7-5 team and not a SEC contender - then there are a bunch of reasons why.
Last 4 seasons (Bowl Years)
0-4 vs Georgia
0-1 vs Alabama
0-1 vs Texas A&M
1-3 vs Florida
1-9 Overall
0-1 vs Ole Miss
1-3 vs Tennessee
1-0 vs Arkansas
2-2 vs Mississippi State
3-1 vs South Carolina
4-0 vs Vanderbilt
4-0 vs Missouri
15-7 Overall
11-1 vs Non-P5 Teams
3-1 vs Louisville
14-2 OVerall
Kentucky beats bad teams (mostly, other than Tennessee) and loses to good teams. Kentucky is 16-16 in the SEC the last 4 years and 13 of those 16 wins are against Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri and Arkansas.

He definitely has.

recent success
It's relative success to what UK has done in the past.

Because Florida and Georgia, then the inevitable sec west team who would then kick their arse if they somehow beat Georgia and or Florida.

because we're quarantined and there's nothing better to do.

Kentucky would probably win the AAC and MAC every other year, but you're in the SEC. Sorry.

You're conflating people's opinions of Kentucky football with that of Stoops.
This isn't meant to be a pot shot at Kentucky, but TBH, Kentucky is holding Stoops back.
The power schools at the top of the conference make it very difficult for the other schools to make waves.

Future outlook.... better than Aggy

Kentucky certainly has more potential than Arkansad or either Mississippi school

UK football is heading in the right direction no doubt. They should be in a pretty good recruiting environment with ties to the SEC and proximity to the Midwest....I wouldn't be surprised if they won the SEC east someday....
The problem is history....UGA has won 80% of its games against UK in football, UT has won 70% and UF has won 74%.
Conversely, as universally accepted as UKs dominance in basketball is they win 83% of the time against UGA, 72% of the time against Florida and 68% of the time against UT….dominant, no doubt, but about on par with how they are being dominated by the top 3 SEC east programs in football.....UGA basketball is horrendous, on average so the dominance is about the same.....and Florida and UT, better traditionally in Basketball than UGA, win more in football against UK than UK does against them in Basketball....

Little known fact- between 1952-2002, LSU and Kentucky played every year. And it was, year after year, a pretty solid game . By comparison, in those same years, LSU played Auburn only 19 times.
