Yea sounds like either ear infections(both of mine had tubes at 6 months old) or reflux. It’s not normal to wake up that frequently after falling asleep even for a 5 month old. Something is bothering her. It’s one thing to not be able to fall asleep because she wants you but it’s another to not be able to stay asleep for long if they are fed and have a clean diaper.

If it makes you feel better, my oldest is 13yo and still cannot sleep through the night. It’s just now she doesn’t cry out or come in our room. She will just come downstairs and turn the tv on at 2am. Just here to let you know, it never gets better. Good luck!

Let her cry. I know it’s hard, but you either have the balls or you don’t. She might cry for an hour. It will turn into screaming. Do not give in. Before 90 minutes she will sleep and sleep for hours. The next night it will happen again. This time she will give in sooner - maybe 30 minutes. The third night 10 minutes and the fourth night next to nothing. If you give in - even once - at any time during this - you’ve gone back to square one.
Good luck. You might have to sit on your wife. I suggest you get her noise canceling headphones.

You are a fricking retard. Nobody is letting a baby cry for an hour straight. Do you know how long that is?

Stop going in there and acknowledging her. Go in, fix the paci and leave. Let her cry it out, she’s already learned to cry to get you in there.
Keep checking for wet diapers though it made me feel awful when my son would cry and I’d let him cry it out and it was something to cry about.
5-8 months is a hard time.

Agree with others. As much as it is going to suck, you have to let her cry it out.

Thanks, everyone
She has a sound machine
She has a swaddle outfit
She has an owlet that lets us keep track of her breathing and heart rate (should help with the moms sanity during this cry it out method

Swaddle up snug and let it cry it out. Just make sure baby is not wet, hungry, etc. biggest problem you have now is probably the wife unwilling to listen to crying without picking up the baby. The more you pick up and soothe, the worse this gets.

Everyone hit the things we had to do.
1st was more food, and introduction of rice cereal.
Next we changed from a swaddle to a sleep sack
After that the only time we had issues is if there weren't enough naps during the day
5 months can be a sleep regression period, good luck

Make sure the baby is full. Our problem seemed to be my wife wasn't making enough milk. Started supplementing formula, and it changed the game. Baby was full, and also formula digests slower than natural breastmilk, so he stayed full longer.
Mylicon (gas medicine) was also very helpful. It dissolves little air bubbles in their stomach. Seemed to calm him down quickly, and it's even worked for him recently as an 18 month old. Gripe water didn't do any good, and the taste is awful, so we caught hell even trying to get him to drink it.

Our little man had this issue.
The best way for him to sleep was in a rock n play that kept him somewhat inclined... we also tried a sleeping wedge in his pack n play, but he wouldn't stay head up in that one.
I know the rock n plays were recalled for safety reasons, though... fortunately for us it was a lifesaver helping him sleep.

There is a night time gripe water you can try.
Also, is the baby teething? That might obviously be painful, in addition to upsetting the baby’s stomach. Check with your doc but if that’s the case, a smidge of Motrin might also help.

Use this and trust me it works. I was a skeptic but not anymore
Cara Dumaplin - Taking Cara Babies
Ollie Swaddle - tuck that kids arms in tight so it can’t move

You need to invest in a few zipper or Velcro swaddle sacks
Wrap the baby tight as hell and feed it 8-10 ounces before sleep
Google Merlin baby suit

Wish my wife would've listened to me about the cry it out method. Now she doesn't get any sleep and hates her life.

I always cringe at the breeder threads on here. Me and my wife get to keep all our money and can travel any time we want (we went to Disney 3 times last year!)
It’s really pathetic to see you betas wasting the prime of your lives changing diapers and eating Dino nuggets while I’m in my man cave gaming and pounding brewskis

I'm a lifetime subscriber to the cry it out method, assuming that the baby is healthy, fed, clean diaper, etc.
Go order the Mom's on Call book. We used that to sleep train both our girls and they were going 7-8 hours by month three when my wife returned to work.
Schedules and predictability in routine are so critical for young children. Its how they understand the world around them, knowing that they'll take a nap, wake up get a bottle, then play time, nap, repeat etc. Takes a lot of the unknown out of their day. Anytime they are upset, unsure, bored, or tired they cry. Anything you can do to reduce the cause of crying is a win.
