Good.
The captain betrayed his obligations to OpSec, gave our enemies useful information and undermined his superiors.
He had to go.

The captain of an aircraft carrier struggling with a coronavirus outbreak will reportedly be relieved from command after a letter he penned pleading for help leaked to the media.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, Reuters reported Capt. Brett Crozier is expect to be relieved from command of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, with one official saying a formal announcement could come as soon as Thursday.
Crozier wrote a letter to Navy leaders that was obtained and published by the San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday, showing him warning of dire consequences if most of the sailors on Roosevelt aren’t evacuated.
Officials told Reuters he would be relieved from command because the Navy believes he is one who leaked the letter, not because he wrote it.
My father fought in WWII in the Philippine jungle....can you imagine the diseases/parasites those heroes were dealing with and they didn’t have near the field medicine we have today. I wish he were still alive......I’m sure he would have some sage advice for this seaman.

Pretty sure the majority wanted him gone and a few people were saying what you said.

Writing the letter and leaking it. I can see writing it. Leaking it seemed to be done to cause embarassment to the government or worse, to expose the readiness of the fleet to our adversaries.

This pussy leaked his cry for help to the media , he's a pussy.
There's nothing pussified about his concern about the sailors needing to be removed from the carrier. It's a valid concern and he was well within his rights to make sure the pentagon was aware of that.
What was not ok is leaking the letter as that compromised OpSec and undermined his superiors.

Leaking the letter (if he did it) is sedition of the worst sort.
Now this sounds more like treason

Treason is the crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government.
Sedition is conduct or speech that merely rebels against and/or inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.
The captain's actions fall under Sedition if you want to go that far.

He should be commended for his actions. But he still needs to be disciplined. He was looking out for his sailors at the expense of his own career. That takes courage.

What do they say about the military that there is a chain of command that's to be adhered to? He broke that chain.

The act of leaking the letter more than cancels out his concern for the sailors on his ship.
Compromising OpSec is a big no no and does as much to put those sailors in grave danger as the coronavirus is doing right now.

Now imagine it’s 2020 and not 1940. That memo does not give detailed information about our naval readinessp
So a memo where the Captain if a deployed nuclear powered aircraft carrier saying basically he wants to go into port and reduce the crew to 10% is not detailed information on readiness.....Dear Lord, you sir may be the biggest idiot on TigerDroppings.

I have dueled on this treason vs sedition ground quite a bit.
To me - treason is limited to actions taken to assist a hostile power in a time of war.
Sedition is for political shenanigans where you try to undermine a government from within.
Anything that compromises the safety or mission of an aircraft carrier to me falls on the side of treason rather than political maneuverings.
the distinction between the two is arguable in this situation - but I don't see this as akin to 'sedition' = perhaps it is nothing more than command incompetence.

Why is everyone assuming that it was Captain Crozier who leaked to the press?
Assuming he was NOT the leak, was he not conveying up the chain of command EXACTLY the type of info that his superiors may have needed in order to ASSESS operational readiness?

My grandfather got malaria in New Guinea during WW2. Messed him up pretty bad. Died of a stroke at 42 y/o.

The thread would not exist without this underlying assumption.
Hell, I don't even know he was relieved of his command - other than the statements in this thread.
perhaps it is all a moot argument

At a time when China is asserting itself and rapidly expanding it's influence in southeast Asia, this is failure to maintain security is absolutely intolerable.

During WW2 in the Pacific theatre, malaria removed soldiers,,sailors and marines were sidelined from combat-readiness for 3.3 million sick days. LINK
