.45. Cause they don’t make a .46.

.45 ACP is my choice. Good enough for the U.S., good enough for me...
Besides, I jumped into Panama w/ M16A2 & M1911, so I’m kinda partial...

9mm
But the choice of the 2 would be .45 , both will do what you need them to do, the .45 is also much more comfortable to shoot

I agree. I’ll also add I put accuracy above knock down power.

.45
I feel like advances in 9mm ballistics have made the .40 almost obsolete. But 9mm tech can’t replace 230 grains of boom.

Unless your life depends on it. .45 ACP is very accurate up to 50m, and has much more energy & shock than 9mm...

10mm.
It’s the .40s daddy. Seriously.

How energy at 50m?
.45 is way slow, give me a hit load over fat and slow any day.
Compare the .45 against 10mm now.

Not the 2 choices given. Compare 10mm to 20mm while you are at it. Dumbass...

What make and model is the 20mm dumbass?

They do make a .460, and it's badass.

My truck gun is .45 ACP and I have Hornady Critical Defense + P's in it.
Carry gun(s) are a choice of a couple 9's and a .380 depending on how I'm carrying.

The same advances apply to the .40
Love it or hate it, on paper it's in 3rd place behind 357 sig and 10mm for self-shuckers

for a legit answer, you would have to make a more detailed comparison ...example:
.45 acp 185gr. JHP fired from a 5" barrel @ _____FPS
vs.
.40 180 gr. Jhp fired from a 5" barrel@_______FPS
then you have to figure out what variables you want to compare in ballistic gelatin..
if you are wondering which pistol round has the highest performing 1 shot stops, ammolab.com (i think that was the site) had a ton of stats based on shootings involving both cops and non cops and at the time I was checking it out the 10mm and the .357 sig were the champs of the 1 shot stop...I dont remember the weights but I think the sig round was a gold dot and the 10mm was a ranger sxt. Now this was several years ago and bullet technology is much more advanced now then it was back 20 years ago so you have some really high performing 9mm rounds (147gr. HST) which would have outperformed almost everything back then.
if you absolutely had to chose between either .40 and.45 I personally would choose the .45

Only way to know is to draw against someone with your preferred cartridge and report back.
